Ok, DH said he like Olivia Charlize!?!? Then he asks, what number was grace in our state b/c I was talking about popularity of the names, etc. Well, get this...Olivia is #11 and Gracie is # 35 while Grace is #46. (for 2005/so I am sure these have jumped a bit?) I hear so many more Grace's than Olivia's though. He tells me as double names, we do not know any Grace/Gracie's!! This is true, we know Emma Grace, Hannah Grace, Sarah Grace, Anna Grace, Mia Grace, etc.
How does the Social Security board measure the popularity? I guess this is fn not mn?
Ok...my question is if I don't want a name that is super popular (I really wanted to avoid the top 20) should we use Grace rather than Olivia? If so, this takes us back to mn issues b/c of our last name and what flows best w/ Grace?? (Watson)

That surprises me, because I definitely hear Grace a million times more. It has become really filler for mn's as well, which adds to the popularity, and mn's aren't taken into account for SSA. I really prefer Olivia.

Maybe it's just my area, but I hear Olivia a lot. I don't know of any baby girls named Grace, but know several dogs named Gracie.
Not sure if that helps at all, but it's just what I've noticed.
AJ, enjoying life with C.
If you were talking about any other name next to Olivia, then yes, I'd say it was rather popular. But you're right about the SSA stats ... those only take into account the actual first names, not Grace as a mn or part of a double name (like the dozens you already know of, which seems to be your answer right there). True, you may not yet know any little girls whose given name is simply Grace, but Emma Grace, Hannah Grace, Sarah Grace, Anna Grace, Mia Grace ... really, will you feel like your "Grace" stands out more than the others? You still know a lot of Graces, even if it's not the first in line. ;)
FWIW, I couldn't look up your state (not knowing what it is LOL), but nationally, there were 15,453 Olivias born last year and 14,938 Grace/Gracies, so when you combine the numbers its actually very close. Also, if you've seen BabyZone's top 100 of 2006, Grace was THE most popular name according to their site. I believe theirs was calculated using both names members actually chose (probably obtained through polls and basic member information) and the names that were most often specifically searched for/viewed.
So no, I wouldn't choose Grace over Olivia in an attempt to avoid the popularity. I'd call them about equal, all things considered, and Grace seems to be heavily on the rise as a fn (probably thanks in part to its solid position as a popular filler mn ... many move it to the fn slot thinking it's "not as popular" there. Oops. ).

I think that Grace Charlize Watson sounds nice.
If you are worried about popularity then I think that Olivia, nn Libby solves your problems. Libby is an under used nn for both Elizabeth and Olivia. Libby is close to Livi - which you like, but I am sure that your little one will rarely encounter another Libby.
Good luck!

If you haven't already checked it out, here is a neat site http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html
good luck!
Olivia is much more popular than Grace as a fn. Much. I think you shoudl compromise and name her:
Grace Olivia Watson
