Hi, everyone. I'm a lurker from the Feb. 2005 expecting board. I'm finding out the baby's sex this coming Wed., and all of sudden, I feel like I'm on a name that baby rampage! Need HONEST opinions on the name Piper for a girl. (sorry if this one's been discussed) I LOVE it, but my mom and sister both said, "Ummm, Piper? No." Does everyone else think it's too weird, or do you think it's super-cute like me? I need to know! Will she be made fun of? :(

It's not one of the names on my list, but it's becoming a little more popular. Although your family hasn't heard much of it in the past, it will probably become more familiar to them in the future whether or not you name your daughter Piper.

When my sister was pg 3 1/2 years ago, she told us several months ahead of time that she was thinking about Olivia. My mom and I hadn't heard of that in young kids, so we rolled our eyes behind her back. Once she was born, we ran into little baby Olivias all over the place. Now we think it's a beautiful name. So even if they don't sound like they like it now, if you love it, it will grow on them! It's definitely not a name that's unheard of!

I'm an insomniac lurker who happened on your post, I just had to respond.

I love the name Piper!! I'm 43 and when I was in junior high school there was a girl a few grades ahead of me named Piper and she was the neatest person you'd ever want to meet! Bubbly personality, very kind, pretty

Piper is one of my all time favorite girls names! If I could get DH to consider it, it would be near the top of our list. I say go for it. Piper is adorable!!

I really like the name piper. It's original and quirky but not totally unheard of. Definetly call her Piper, it's so sweet!

I only started hearing it recently and I really like it a lot. I met one at the local college and was surprised, because she was in her late teens.

I think it matches up great with a sibling for Skyler. your mom and your sister will get used to it. it makes me think of a really spunky little girl. and I don't think she'll be made fun of at all. there are so many different styles of names out there now that people are used to hearing just about everything.

go for it!

good luck

I personally would not use it in my family because it doesn't fit with my kids' names Sabrina and Cameron. But, I think it would sound super-cute with Skyler!! I say go for it, Piper is more heard of now, and I've only heard it for girls. She won't get made fun of anymore than the girls named Peyton.

HTH,

Ali
