My husband and I were trying to figure out...if we have a daughter and name her Madison, would her nickname be spelled Mattie? Maddy? Madie? Mattie? I know we can probably choose, but what would YOU prefer? Thanks!

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
I have always seen it spelt Maddie or Maddy. I do have to warn you of the trendiness of this name though! It is overwhelmingly trendy and popular, to the point that very soon it will be outdated (think Nicole, Stephanie, Michelle of the 80's). Madeline has a much classier feel, if you like the Maddie/Maddy nn, but overall, I would NOT use Madison!!!

most of the ones I see when they spell it they use Maddie - and just so you know before you name her that - they are EVERYWHERE - Madison is the most popular, but there are also a lot of Madeline's and Madalynn's who use the nickname Maddie

Matty and Mattie don't make any sense to me because there is no t in Madison. I'm not saying that every nickname in the world has to have only letters found in the full name; but in this case, I just don't see the connection. Matty and Mattie would make perfect sense for a name like Mattea or Matilda, but not (in my opinion, based on both spelling and pronunciation) Madison.
Madie would be pronounced MAY-dee. Of course, you can probably get close friends and family to pronounce it like Maddy, but anyone seeing it written would think MAY-dee. For that reason, I don't recommend it. Unless, of course, you want people to call her MAY-dee.
Maddy or Maddie would work fine.
