Hey,
I had a convo with DBF last night about baby names. we are not ttc yet and do not have any children, but i've always have been interested in names and love running them by him. Last night tho, i actually listened to hear what his favorite names are. We have agreed in the boy's department for at least one name. Hudson Carr. He takes great pride in the fact that his family is a descendant of Henry Hudson's, and also has a great attachment to the Hudson river, where he grew up really (his family is very into boating) I can't really think of any nicknames, other than possibly to name him John Hudson Carr, the John being for my dad's younger brother who passed away a few years ago. John was always called Jack, and i think that Jack Hudson might work as a nickname.
Our other question tho was about his favorite name, for his grandmother. i never met her as she passed away before i was born, but i know that she was a very loved and respected woman. Her name was Helen, and DBF said that he did really like this name and would love to use it on a girl. I like Helen, not in love with it, but I do like it and how classic and elegant it seems. My only problem is that it seems too grown up to call a little child Helen, but i've been having a hard time coming up with good nicknames. Leni or Lena i thought could work and i'd absolutely love it if Ella could be used some how, I guess Ellie too.
Sorry for this ramble, i'm very interested to hear your thoughts :)

Helen is nice, and I like Helena even more. What about using the the very cute nickname "Laney"?
I'm not into matching sibling names, so I probably wouldn't go with Helen and Hudson. However, Helen and Jack sounds fantastic!
Good luck!
How about using Lenny/Lenni for a nn for Helen?

I really like the name Hudson a lot and I love your reasons for using it.
of course, Elle, Ella would be great nn for Helen!
(afterall alot of known nicknames dont make sense,
Peg from Margaret, or even Jack from John)
however, perhaps you'd like, Helena,
better, well known name, lil more feminine,
great as a young girl, beautiful as an adult.
also is Elena, Eliana,
gl2u!!!!!!!

I'm a little confused about your wording, but Elle or Ella aren't a stretch at all (they can be considered short forms of Ellen, a form of Helen, after all). I also like Nell a lot, especially given the current popularity of Elle/Ella nn names.
Also, if you're not completely sold on Helen there are plenty of other forms you might like: Elaine/Lainey, Elen(a), Eleni, Ellen/Elle/Ella, Helena, Helene, Ileana, Ilona, Lena/Lene/Leni, etc.

hey again!
thank you guys all for your responses! it is really nice seeing that this name could be used, with a nickname that i like. its sad that Ella is so popular now as a name, since i've loved it since i was little and saw Cinderella. Helena is a beautiful name, and I really like the nn's Leni, Lena, and Nell :) But she might turn out to be like my sisters, my parents had planned on calling them Katie and Maggie or Meg, lol they insisted that they were Kathryn and Margaret however.
I hadn't realized the Helen-Hudson rhyming. I would be more likely to use Hudson, but if not as a first name, I will probably use Helen as a middle name.
With Hudson, i really do like this. I wonder if anyone would pick up on the Hudson Carr thing (lol DBF's initials are GMC) I'd love to use Jack as a first name, but i'm afraid of seeing Carr, Jack... on some list- DBF thinks that's hysterical.
I'm sorry if my wording is confusing. I've been at work much earlier than normal and have been under a lot of stress, so my brain probably isnt functioning as well.
