Nickname for William Kent??

We are having the WORST time deciding on names. Our fathers' names are william and kent (and my husband's father, kent, passed away recently which makes the name particularly meaningful for him).

So he suggested naming the baby William Kent and calling him Kent. I don't really like Kent the name Kent, to be perfectly honest (it's very cute on other kids but with our short last name, I'm not crazy about it) AND I just think of that first and last name combo as being my father in law, not my baby... I know that's selfish of me but I just can't picture that name on my baby.

Anyhow, my husband doesn't like Will or Liam - can you think of any other nicknames that could go well with William Kent or Kent William? Or a third name we could put in there to call the baby?

THe names I like (for reference) Owen, Carter, Beckett

The names DH likes: Kai, Ryder, Koa

We both like Noah, Maddox (Max) and Riley though they are not top choices for us....

Thanks so much for your help!

I think William Kent is a wonderful name & will have such meaning for your son. I really like Kent, but I can see why you wouldn't want to call him that. My nn suggestion was going to be Liam so I don't know what else to tell you except that I would go with your original name selection.

I totally understand what you mean about calling him Kent.

Some nicknames:

Willis
Bill
Billy
Wilkes
Wilson (son of William, literally - kind of fitting)
Wiley
Kellen (sort of a mash of Kent and William)
Kellet (another mix)
Welk
Kiam, Kien ?
Kenyon
Kenny
Kit

Okay that's all I can think of without getting too creative. Kit and Wiley are my favorites. Kiam sounds nice but I'm pretty sure I made it up - but as a nickname it's cute.

Good Luck!

Hi there, Kate.

William Kent is handsome, but I totally understand that you don't want your baby to be addressed by the exact first & last name as your FIL.

I love the Wilkes suggestion...I was thinking of the writer Wilkie Collins, myself, but I'm pretty sure that's got way too much teasing potential.
