nn and mn for Melissa?

Ok, I think DH and I have decided on a girl name - my criteria was that it had to be feminine sounding and not trendy. His criteria seemed to change every day, and he didn't like my top choices: Brenna, Jillian, and Christina. But last night he said he LOVED the name Melissa. While it wouldn't be my first choice, I do like it and I think it's growing on me the more I think about the name Melissa Myers.
Here's my dilemma - I need a pretty mn that flows well. My mn is LeAnn and would love to pass that on, but I'm not sure it flows all that well. I'm also wondering what to call her (if it's a her). I'm not fond of Missy...would Liz pass as a nn? If not, what are some other suggestions?
TIA!

My best friend growing up was Melissa. We usually called her Mel, her mom called her Melis and her little brother called her issa or izzy. I think LeAnn sounds great with Melissa. Its a very pretty name and she liked having a name that people knew but not many classmates had. Good luck!

But anyways back to business. I think Melissa LeAnn flows nicely, I really like it. Melissa is a great name. I like Lissa as a nn. Its sweet.
Found the book! Its called the Melissa Book by Melissa Bee... might be a nice present when she's born? Here's the link if you're interested...

Thanks for the ideas, ladies, and thanks for the book link! I'm eager to check it out. I'm growing fond of Melissa, if for no other reason than it's not commonly used anymore, but still very pretty.
Theresa - I agree - I like Brenna and Jillian better, but DH didn't. Maybe this is one of those instances where our age gap comes into play (he's 44 and I'm 31). That's ok, I'm willing to compromise. :)

NNs for Melissa: Mel, Meli, Lissa, Issa, Lissy, Issy, Liss (Liz is okay too).
My favorites are Lissa and Issa.
and i think melissa leann sound great together.
Ive ALWAYS loved the name Melissa - my best friend all through elementary school was a Melissa - we called her MeMe. I know how horrible that sounds - but as a kid, I guess it was natural.
I can't remember her mn - but how about Nicole? Also one of my favorites (wishing I was having another girl now - girls names are SO much easier than Boys names). My own daughter is Lauren Illyana - there was no debating me on the first anme so I had to give in and let my ex DH pick out the middle - DO NOT FALL FOR THAT TRAP! However thankfully its grown on me.
now come to think of it Melissa Lauren - sounds beautiful too
GOOD LUCK!!!
My name is Melissa so I had to reply! My parents also weren't fond of the nn Missy, but that is what I ended up being called until I entered high school (as did the 3 other Melissas in my class). I didn't really mind until I got older and wanted to lose the girly little name. Some people still call me that, and since they've known me all my life it doesn't bother me at all.
My sister calls me Miss. . . I've also been called Missa, Melis, MeMe. . . I like all of these (and they are better than Missy when you are older!)
My FAVORITE nn was given to me by a coworker. She called me Lissa (or Lissy), so I think Liz would definately work if you like it best. If you use it from the start, maybe you can get everyone else to follow along! I think my parents just gave up early on trying to change everyone's mind!
I think LeAnn is pretty for a mn. Mine is Renee which I always thought went nicely.
Good luck! :)
