NN for Audrey

DH and I have decided to name our DD Audrey Anne but are stumped as to what nickname she'll go by. My DS is Wyatt, another name for which there isn't a clear nn. In daycare the other kids called him Wy-Wy for a while but now at 2.5 years, I just call him Wy or buddy.

We're stuck with the name Audrey though. We'd like something that can grow up with her but nothing is really coming to mind. Since I've been pg I've called her peanut but I don't see that going over well with a 15 year old. The only other thing that might work is Sis or Sissy but I've honestly never cared for those. DS says her name perfect so nothing on that front either.

Ideas?

I never really understood why so many people are of the mind that EVERY name NEEDS a nickname.

Nicknames don't always come directly from a name. It could come from her appearance, her personality, or her mannerisms.

My DD is named Audrey, and we call her Audee. Although we have been calling her tootie at home since she was an infant. So really her NN can be anyhting you would like.

I've got to agree with some of the PP... Audrey is lovely because it doesn't easily shorten to a nickname. It's classic and feminine and lovely as it is.

My DD is also named Audrey. No nickname. I really liked the name because there was nothing obvious to shorten it to and I wanted people to call her by her name not something else. My husband does sometimes call her A but it is on a very rare occasion.

Good Luck!

We are due in October with our second and if it is a girl we are leaning toward Audrey...one of the reasons I like it is because it does not have an easy nickname...I am not a fan of nicknames, thus my son is Evan. I am Monica and dh is Eric, we don't have nicknames around here ;) . I feel if you want to call her something different (like Andi, for example) to just name her that :) Also I really like Wyatt just as it is, and I think it goes great with Audrey! GL!!

I agree. And choosing a nickname before the child is born kind of defeats the purpose of a nickname. A nickname is really something someone calls a baby, child or grown up because it's their pet name for them. To me, variations of names is different than a nickname, like drey or annie for audrey anne. I don't really consider them nicknames.

on another note, a pp poster wrote that some of her friends call their children names that are not their names. that is so true in my DH's family. his great grandma's name was jennie jane yet they called her hannah. and his great aunt is dora and they call her rachel. i don't see how either of those nicknames or "other names" came about from their first names, but i think it's pretty funny.
