My husband and thought that naming a little girl Olivia and calling her Liv would be adorable. Our dd is Gabriella (Ella) and we thought thw two went nicely together. Unfortunately, Olivia might be too popular, so I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a name with the nn Liv that is feminine and goes well with Ella. Thanks in advance!

Olive too old-fashioned?

How about just Livia?

Or Lavinia?

If you like the surname-male name-female name path (like Addison or Madison), how about Sullivan or (*streeeetch*) Livingston?

Here's some names I found that contain 'Liv' in them. Why not Liv on its own?

Alivia
Liv
Livana
Livi
Livia
Livvy
Olive

Quite awhile ago I was reading a book & a charachter's name (from LONG, long ago) was Livia. I thought that was pretty cute & a somewhat alternate for the ever-popular Olivia. I actually like Livia better than Olivia.

I love Gabriella and Olivia together and the nn's Ella and Liv are adorable! I don't think Olivia is any more popular that Gabriella is- I think it's perfect.

For some reason the first thing that sprang to mind was Anna Livia (the name of the main female character in James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, I believe). Not sure if it's your style or not, but it would give her lots of options -- Anna Livia, Anna, Livia (which I think a few have suggested), Ann, Annie, Liv, etc. Just a thought!

I LOVE the nn Liv or Livi for Olivia...I was a Nanny for a little girl whose mother insisted she be called NOTHING other than her name...well she soon became Princess Livi to me and the rest of the world also knows her as Liv or Livi. She could say Livi well before she could ever say Olivia. As a matter of fact she is 2 1/2 and still doesn't refer to herself as Olivia!

I grew up with a Lavina so you could do Livina (LiVEEnuh). I think it's kinda cute.
You are right that Olivia is commmon but, if she will be going by Liv I wouldn't think it would matter too much.
Or Olivia/Liv could be a middle name.

Liv is a name all by itself! I think it's Scandavavian, but you could use it on its own without feeling like you're giving her only a nickname for a name!
