hello!! im just curious what names are so popular where you live that theres no way you will ever use them on your children?? i made a really good choice with my oldest dds name-violet-i have not met another violet yet-and she'll be in 2nd grade in september. now, my youngests name is isabelle and i thought i had another unique choice, but its starting to crop up more and more-and isabella especially is really popular...oh well. heres a few names i wont ever use cuz i know of so many:
samantha(unfortunately cuz i love this name)
kaitlyn (and all the various spellings-theres 4 or 5 at my dds school and i know of about 3 more in my hubbys extended family alone)
alyssa (i know of 3 right off the top of my head)
savannah(another growl from me cuz i love that name too)
tyler (again i know of about 3 or 4)
ryan (i know about 5 or 6-and 1 is a girl)
matthew
back when i was in school, the really common names were robert, nicholas and jason for the boys and jennifer for the girls. you dont see those names all that much anymore...take care!!

I must know at least 10 Isabelle/Isabellas under the age of 5 in my area. It's seriously insane. Actually, the letter L is everywhere. On the playground, I constantly hear: Ella/Ellie/Gabriella/Lizzie/Lily/Lillian/Livvie/Allie/Lexie... all pretty names certainly, but there are just so, so many Ls!
I also hear the names Abigail and Hannah quite a bit.
I find it bizarre that I don't know any little ones named Emma or Emily!
Its Emma for me. I loved it, but no way I'll use it.
I think Emma's blow out happened when Rachel (on Friends) named her baby that.
Thanks alot!
Whether they're my style or not, the ones I hear most often -- and therefore couldn't consider even if I did like them -- include:

Nicholas and Matthew are seen all the time here. For girls, Abigail, Madison and Kaylee/Kylee/Kayle.

Ava is so popular here. Everyday I hear it at the store or zoo or where ever. My sil loves it and will most likely use it.

Too popular:
Caitlyn/Katie/Kaylyn/Kylie/Kaley/Baylie/Haylie/Kayla/Ayla/Allie/Allison/Abby/Abigail/Addie/Addison/Maddie/Madison/etc. Taylor, Lily, Libby, Ella, Emma, Ellie, Elise, Isabelle, Ava, etc.
Jacob/Joshua/Jonah/Jayden/Brayden/Caden/Corbin/Connor/etc
All these names start sounding the same after a while!
And I know from teaching elementary school that tons of mothers say their Christopher or Matthew is to be called just that, but all the kids call them Chris and Matt. No matter what. All of them. You can't stop a kid's best friend from calling them Chris, and once they do, it sticks. Just a word to the wise! :)
Just and FYI for you.........
My son, Ryan, is in kindergarten and his class of 14 kids(9 boys-5 girls), there are two Roberts. I was very surprised. But happy because it's a family name for us although I haven't used it.
I do know too many Ryans though. I named him in Jan. of 2001 and it wasn't that popular yet. I still love Jack but way too popular here.
I think Jason is coming back. I am due with my 3rd child in the fall and we are having a boy. I have thought of Jason. My husband's name is Jay. Plus I love Jason Morgan on GH. (lame-I know)
I also know many boys named Nicholas. Maybe name trends are based on certain parts of the country?
Another FYI for you is that Jennifer and Amy were the # names of 1971.
I had numerous girls in my classes named these names in the 70s and 80s.
I think the girls names of today are Emma and Caitlyn.
where I am Madison is so insanely popular I can't understand why anyone would choose it now, but people still are
Hailey is also terribly popular where I am, as is all the Isabelle/Isabella versions - Emma, Emily are both pretty popular, but not above Madison and Hailey.
Nicholas is VERY popular here, I know tons of little Nicholas'
the boys names to avoid are anything that ends with aden
