hello!! im just curious what names are so popular where you live that theres no way you will ever use them on your children?? i made a really good choice with my oldest dds name-violet-i have not met another violet yet-and she'll be in 2nd grade in september. now, my youngests name is isabelle and i thought i had another unique choice, but its starting to crop up more and more-and isabella especially is really popular...oh well. heres a few names i wont ever use cuz i know of so many:
samantha(unfortunately cuz i love this name)
kaitlyn (and all the various spellings-theres 4 or 5 at my dds school and i know of about 3 more in my hubbys extended family alone)
alyssa (i know of 3 right off the top of my head)
savannah(another growl from me cuz i love that name too)
tyler (again i know of about 3 or 4)
ryan (i know about 5 or 6-and 1 is a girl)
matthew
back when i was in school, the really common names were robert, nicholas and jason for the boys and jennifer for the girls. you dont see those names all that much anymore...take care!!

Chase for a boy I have heard a bunch of times.
Emily, Madison.

Jason does seem to be making a comeback, along with quite a few other surprising (or not-so-surprising) J names -- Jacob, John/Jack, Jace, Jadon, Jordan, Jeremy/Jeremiah, Judah/Jude, Jessica, Jennifer, Jenna, Jacy, Josiah, Joseph, Joshua, Jared, etc. Definitely the next big letter trend (bye bye K names? ).
Incidentally, Js easily made up the majority of my Kindergartener's class this year. I'm sure I'll forget a few, but in a class of around 20 there was Jessica, Jacy, Jarred, Josiah, Joshua and Joshuana (ju-shawn-a, apparently ... ignore the spelling), and she even met a little girl named "Jaysen" (or some other misspelling, but I know it was similar) at the park a while back. And that's not counting the little Jacobs, Jadons and Jasons we know personally (lots). ;)

I so agree with the PP who commented on names being regional. I'm here in the Midwest and we have TTOOOO many Emilys! Things are a bit trendy/behind the curve here. I'm considered the one with the "weird kids' names"

I think one reason people pick super-popular names is they don't realize how popular they are. My sis-in-law commented to me last week that she has found the perfect name for her yet-to-be-concieved daughter. She gushes "It's so different and unique! I just love it. She'll stand out." What is this gem of a name? Madison. I about choked on my lunch! I gently told her it was in the top 10. She says, "Really? I don't know anyone with that name!" I asked her if she knew ANYONE (other than my girls) under the age of 10. She admitted that she didn't really. She is a professional and none of her friends or family (except me) have kids yet. She just isn't around kids yet so she really doesn't have a feel for what's popular.
Fun question!
