not my general style...

I LOVE the name Ashton... but it is completely not in the style I generally go for (classic, not too popular- Tabitha, Adeline, Matilda, Anders, Simon, etc.)

Now I couldn't see an Ashton fitting it with any sibs with those names, so I have 2 questions-

1) What do you think of the name? Is it too trendy?

2) What sib names would work well? Keep in mind that I generally HATE trendy!

TIA!

I'm not a big fan of Ashton. It just screams trendy to me. I definitely don't think it fits with your other favorites (except Tabitha, which I think could still work), and I think you'd be better off with a similar but less-trendy name like Asher.

If you wind up with your heart set on Ashton, I'd say the best sibling matches would be unusual names that fit with trends but themselves are unique. That takes the edge of trendiness off Ashton. Maybe something like Breckin, Rhys, Sullivan, Soren, Deacon, Heath, or Vaughn for boys and Selah, Samira, Malia, Mira, Paloma, Bianca, Rhiannon, or Felicity for girls. (Didn't Felicity used to be one of your top names?)

I get what you're saying. If you absolutely love Ashton, but not the trendiness associated with it, I'd try to find names of a similar style -- minus the trendiness -- for any siblings. Surname/place names, for example.

Colby
Darby
Devereux
Ennis
Everley
Granville
Leith
Marly/Marley
Neville
Willoughby

Just a few examples, but hopefully you see what I mean. Any of these paired with Ashton makes for a much more classic, surnamey feel than, say, Ashton and Jadon would.

Is Ashton for a boy? If so, I consider this a classic boys name, only recently have the girls taken over this great name. I see a sib set of Ashton, Graham, and Matilda.

Good luck,

Felicity is still one of my faves Annie. I forgot to add that one!

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I am going to be looking through those lists more carefully right after this post. There are about a MILLION girl names I love, and only a a handful of boy names, Ashton being one of them.

Thanks again!

well, I've come across some families lately where's there's been a mix of trendy/modern and classic/traditional names

the thing with Ashton, believe it or not I know a few girls here in my area named that. I don't know any little boys named that personally, although I do believe it's probably still a little more male heavy in the unisex department

if you like it, use it and don't worry about future siblings till the time comes - that would be my rule of thumb for anyone, regardless of what names they like. it's hard enough sometimes picking a name for the baby you're expecting without stressing out over what will match up with possible future babies.

were you thinking of Ashton for a boy or girl? I've seen it spelled Ashtin and Ashtyn for girls

good luck

I think it's gone too unisex. If you're looking for boy names, I'd go with Asher instead -- and I LOVE Anders. Very nice.

i agree with whoever it was that ashton feels like more of a classic boy's name and a trendier girl's name. With that said, I do like the way it sounds on both a boy and a girl, I just find it to be trendier for a girl.

If you are wanting to use Ashton for a girl, I think, from your list, Ashton & Tabitha and Ashton & Mathilda sound great together, and it detracts from the trendiness of the name.

Other names:
Ashton & Madison ( ? possibly too trendy?)
Ashton & Rebekah
Ashton & Charlotte
Ashton & Jemima

Good Luck!

My personal opinion is that I LOVE Ashton - for a girl. I am very annoyed that it's become so popular as a boys name, only because DH is convinced it's a boys name and won't even consider it for this little girl.

My (female) cousin is named Ashton and I've always loved it!

I'm not as good at names lists and ideas. But Ashton's brother is Zachary, which I think goes well.

I really like the name Ashton for a boy. I don't think it's too trendy. I just checked the ssa and the highest it got was #76 in 2004...that is still pretty rare. In 2005 it went back down to 107. It is definitely more of a male name than female IMO.
I think Ashton goes well with Felicity too.
