Ana -- with so many -ana names out there, I'd really expect this to be a nn

Isaac -- very nice

Rylee -- very poorly spelled ... looks like ril-lee LOL

Akira -- fine, assuming the parents are Japanese (or maybe really into anime/video games)

Grayson -- ok

Leighton -- eh

Walker -- Texas Ranger

Evelynn -- drop the last "n" from Evelyn and I like it ... unless of course this is an Anglicized version of Eibhlin (Eve-lynn). Then I still like it.

Reese Caroline -- Caroline is nice, but I really dislike Reese as a given female name

Serena -- that's fine

TALA -- looks like an internet abbreviation

Alexandra -- pretty, but so overdone in my area

Alondra -- very pretty

Brody -- love it

Cooper -- it's ok ... falls into the "smart boy names also used on puppies" category (Cooper, Spencer, Dexter, etc.).

Cora -- love it!

Dixie -- only on a very Southern little girl or a paper cup. Otherwise, not as a given name.

Dylan -- that's fine

Elise -- lovely

Ian -- great name

Orah Marie -- hehe ... I initially saw "Oprah"

Taylor -- Is this a boy? Girl? Seamstress?

Aubrey -- MUCH prefer Audrey. That B really takes the name down a class for me.

Benson -- like the butler? Interesting. Wonder if his dad is Benjamin (in which case, kind of cool)

Elijah -- fine, although I personally prefer Elliott or Elias

Morgan -- love it for a boy. Prefer Morrigan or Morgana if this is a girl.

Shane Curtis -- sounds very "country." Interesting combo

Skyler -- too trendy and unisex for me.

Dante James -- fine

Alaynna -- terrible, terrible spelling of an otherwise-lovely name

Christina Michelle -- very dated

Logan -- getting popular, but I have to admit I've always liked it

Alexus Kaven -- ick

Cherish Josine -- guess I should have saved my "ick" for this one! ICK!!!

Gavin -- that's nice

Guy Steven -- I never understood this "name." We get it ... it's a boy. He's a guy. What's his name?

Jesse Lee -- sounds like a wrestler in the making

Kennedy Marie -- eh. Unisex. Surname. Bad flow. Just doesn't seem they put much thought into this one.

Memory Kay -- and apparently they were afraid they'd "forget." LOL Just because a word sounds pretty to you doesn't make it an appropriate name. Given that criteria, Diarrhea sounds just adorable.

Austin James -- Austin's kind of tapering off, I think, but this is still fine.

Breanna -- so overdone here

Camren Joseph -- aww, this would have been nice if they'd looked up the spelling first

Cassidy -- eh. It's fine.

Donato -- I've always liked this for it's meaning (although it's a very yummy pizza place around here LOL)

Ella -- not just popular, but really common thanks to its usage as a nn for so many other names. At least the ones using it as a nn have the option of a full name as well.

Jamal -- nms, but fine

Kamry Jade -- like a green Toyota?

Laadon Cooper -- if this is a typo for Landon, it's nice. If someone really "laid on Cooper," not so much.

Paxton (boy) -- I love Paxton

Aubrey -- ditto Aubrey comments above

Aunika -- taking phonetic spellings a bit too far.

Cashlin (girl) -- conceived in Vegas?

Gabriel -- nice

Kyleigh -- trendy, and the -leigh endings always seem so over-the-top

LILLIAN -- nice

Rayshaun -- nmsaa

Camron -- getting closer, but still not it LOL

Christopher -- fine

EMMA -- pretty, but popular

SPENCER -- see comments on Cooper (but I do like it ... didn't mean it to sound otherwise LOL)

Thomas -- fine

Trace -- fine as a nn, but otherwise it's just a coloring command

Alexandria -- another Alex- name

Benaiah -- I actually knew I'd seen this one a lot (Christian school - K through 12th LOL), but I've heard it pronounced a dozen different ways ... apparently never correctly, because I just looked it up to find out. (bee-NAY-a, for anyone else scratching their heads)

Bostin Joe -- WOW! That is perhaps one of the worst baby names I've heard in a while. Sounds like a bubble gum, chili-house menu item or cliche character in an old dime-store novel

Braden -- part of the Aidan craze but still nice. At least they did misspell it Braydyn

GINO -- fine, but I can't help but see Gyno

Janessa Daisey -- I actually knew a little Janessa, so while it's not really my style it doesn't bother me. The fact that the parents couldn't spell Daisy, however, really does.

Mato -- I really hope they just forget an E

Ella Marie -- possibly one of the most common names you could give your dd. She should definitely have a few friends with the same exact full name.

EMILY -- also very popular, although pretty

Emma Rose -- ok, THIS may be the most common name you could give your dd. LOL Not sure if Rose has surpassed Marie yet, but it has to be close.

Jaicen -- Gag. I literally did. This is a butchering of Jason, isn't it? Way to bastardize a Greek legend.

Preston James -- unfortunately, the combination of these two immediately reminded me of Britney Spears.

Gwendolyn -- one of the best names on here. ;) Very nice.

Payada -- not familiar with this at all, so I can't comment

Carl -- dated, but fine.

Dillon -- really love this

Emma -- another Emma ... what a surprise ;)

Hunter -- Gatherer

Jayda June -- just nmsaa. Trendy alliterative Jay- name. No thanks.

Kail Marie -- Hail Mary?

Lucas -- nice

Revan -- not sure if this is reev-an, rev-an (Evan with an R? LOL) or a typo of Raven.

Taylynn -- like "tailing?" As in to follow someone? You can't just add -lynn to the end of some random letters and call it a name.

Alex -- another Alex- name, but this time they just cut to the chase

Izabel -- not the best spelling of a very popular name

Kaelyn -- too trendy

Makaela -- trendy AND very misspelled. Contrary to popular belief (apparently), Michaela is NOT a Mc- name (or in this case, a Ma- name LOL)

Morgen -- Morgan

Taylan -- I'm really surprised to see both Taylynn and Taylan here. Any idea where they're coming from?

CHAISE -- ROFLMBO I'm sure they think they've made up a kre8iv spelling for Chase, but instead they've named their child after furniture. It's not even pronounced the same!

Dane -- love Dane

Declan -- also love Declan ;)

HARMONY -- I won't go into why I don't like most virtue names in general, but oddly enough, I KNOW a Harmony, and she doesn't get along with anyone. Ironic.

Hayle -- I'm going to assume this is a family surname (and I'm really hoping they're not going for Hay-lee with that spelling)

Imari -- nms, but could be very pretty on a dark-haired little beauty

Isabella -- very popular

Israel -- eh. I wouldn't use it as a name, but if you use it to honor your heritage, religious views, etc. I'm not opposed. It does immediately bring to mind Israel Bissell (great bit of history)

Leo -- like it as a nn

SAMUEL -- popular, but sweet

Jocelyn -- nice

Justin -- dated, but nice

Marsay -- is this really just Marcy in disguise? LOL

RAIDEN -- ok, if the kid's really Japanese, this is a pretty cool name. If the parents just think they've invented a new Aidan name, it's, well, just another Aidan name

Trayton -- bet they just wanted to use the nn Tray/Trey

Zoey Lynnette -- what an odd pairing. Zoe is "cute," but too muppet/Polie for me.

ALLYSON -- I know this is a common form of Alison/Allison, but to me it says Al-ee-son, not Al-i-son

Ariana -- very popular/trendy here, but at least they didn't spell it Ahryahnna or something

Chloe -- nms, but fine.

Heaven -- nmsaa ... but at least it's "Heaven, spelled forward" ROFL

Jadyn -- a misspelling of a Biblical male name that has now become tired, trendy and apparently unisex

Gracey`-- horribly cutesy. Can you imagine voting for Presidential candidate Gracey Lynn Johnson? LOL

Jonah -- fine in theory, but the whale vomit gets me every time

NahRiah -- I can't even try to like that. And FWIW, you shouldn't be allowed to just capitalize random letters within a name

Patricia -- well that's nice and normal at least ;)

Tavian -- made up

Whisper -- ok, I'll whisper ... what's your baby's name? That is really, really terrible. Really.

Ashton -- too associated with the actor, but fine

BAYLEE -- don't people realize these kre8iv spellings actually look MUCH less attractive? Are they trying to make the names worse?

Jordain -- looks like they wanted Jordan to look exotic

Karina -- that's nice

KAYLEE -- ditto BAYLEE

MAKENNA -- Ok, McKenna is a Mc- name, but unless you're naming her after you "Ma" who's name was "Kenna" this is horrible. Ma- and Mc- do not make the same sound.

Andrew -- very sweet

Brenen -- I've never seen Brennan misspelled before

Colin -- very nice

Conner -- Connor or Conor would be very nice. A Conner is someone who dupes people out of their money (built-in career aspirations? hehe)

Genna -- Gemma is sweet. Jenna is dated. I'm not sure what to make of Genna

JAYDEN -- Jadon. It's Jadon. Sigh.

Mattisen -- hmm ... parents thought they were using something more "unique" than the uber-trendy Madison, right? What ever will they call her? Oooh, how about Mattie?! That's so different.

Sawyer -- absolutely love Sawyer, although I have to wonder if people are suddenly picking up on the name from Lost? I've been seeing it a lot more recently.

Brooklyn -- I couldn't dislike this more. Unless you're actually from there, don't use this as a name. It's not just a "new twist" on Brook(e).

DALTON -- I like that

Grace -- nms, but I do think it's more refreshing as a fn

Junipher -- Wow. I mean ... wow. Is that a horrid combination of Juniper and Jennifer?? I'm literally LMBO

LESLY -- Leslie is much more visually appealing.

Mya -- prefer as a nn

PAYLYN -- bet she's a real Paylyn in the butt. ;) Again, you can't just add -lyn to any old group of letters. Payton is fine. Paylyn is not.

Roman -- not for me, but fine

TAYLYN -- wow. These tay-lyns are blowing my mind. I've honestly never heard this one before.

Ayla Ann -- ok, obviously I love Ayla, although I wouldn't have paired it with Ann.

Cassie Marie -- Cassandra, nn Cassie, wouldn've been nice.

Corbyn Douglas -- Corbin is a really great name. I'm guessing people will assume Corbyn is a trendy boy name on a girl.

HANNA -- not for me, but sweet

Jace Alan -- Jay Salan? Bad combo

Keya -- like the car?

Kimimila -- hehe That is fun to say. Imagine her first time at a bar (on her 21st birthday of course). I'm completely sober and I can't say it. ;) (Needless to say, nms)

Ruben -- my sister's ex was named Reuben, and he got a lot of sandwich jokes

Steven Allan -- bad flow. Fine otherwise

Carolina -- as long as they're not pronouncing this like the state, I like it

Gavin -- still like it LOL (this is a looooooong list, isn't it?)

Jonas -- like this a lot. Much prefer this over Jonah

Jozie -- nn (and not a very well-spelled one at that)

Leehia -- I have a sinking feeling this is pronounced Leah. Horribly terrible.

Briley (girl) -- ugh.

Dylan Jacob -- nice

Gabriel Eric -- fine

Hayden Mark -- part of the Aidan trend, but still fine

Matthew Paul -- "normal" LOL

Mollie Ann -- reminds me of Pollyanna. Mary Ann or Margaret Ann, nn Mollie, would be absolutely great.

Kelli,

Your commentary is so great! I really can't get over the spelling that people use for some common names. Better to go with an off the wall name than to butcher the spelling, in my opinion!

Oh, I totally agree! I love real, unusual names you don't hear that often. Heck, my own girls' fns/mns include Abrielle, Devanie and Fiora. But butchering the spelling of a name -- especially a very common or popular one! -- honestly doesn't make it any more unique. Just more confusing (and definitely not "prettier" LOL).

I agree! Eveyone tries to be unique, but the spellings are just going to cause the kids a lifetime of hassle. I mean, "Mattisen????" You wonder if the parents will regret it a few years down the road.

  ~~~Rachael wife to Mike~~~
