I really really love the name Rogue for a girl. I know it can have a negative connotation but I kind of dont care. I love it! Am I crazy???
The thing about it that is kind of funny to me is that I am not any sort of X-Men fanatic but that is the first time I had heard a girl with that name and my oldest sons name is Logan. For those that dont know Wolverines name is Logan when hes not superhero-ing. Also, for those that dont know the girl that is his little sidekick is Rogue (anne marie i think).
I hope if I choose this name not many people have that knowledge because I dont want to seem crazy or anything. I've only seen the movie once. The name just struck me years ago and I cannot get rid of it.
Thoughts????

I hope you remember when naming your child, especially a daughter, that it is NOT going to be your name, it will be hers. You do not know what your child may have to go through for the rest of her life with a name that can have negative connotations, be constantly misspelled and may not suit her personality at all. She will have to live with it and may resent you for giving her such a name.

I know several people that do not go by their given name for exactly those (and other) reasons and I think it is sad that parents sometimes forget about those things in order to give their child a unique name. Names that suit small babies do not always suit grown-ups and people are not as accepting of names when they are attached to an adult.

This is just my opinion, but I hope you give it some consideration when choosing a name.

Honestly, it feels like Maverick on a boy to me--a bit like a character in a soap or country western song and sheer torture for a bookish introvert. I don't have a problem with word names, as long as the meaning is positive--and this doesn't fall into that category.

Add on Logan on a brother and it does scream "I spent my honeymoon at a comic book convention." The fact that the comic books have been around for eons and all three movies hit it big and Logan was actually called that a lot in them and both he and Rogue were in all three...yeah, people are going to make the connection.

Damian as a name preexists "the Omen." Rogue, on the other hand, is a word referring to something that's out of control. It lacks the background and the positive history to balance out the negative effect of a couple of cheesy movies.

Wow I am quite interested to see how many people only look at the meaning they like when trying to make an argument.

I appreciate comments like yours that give an opinion and not a judgement.

Rogue as a name isn't my style at all, but it's way too corny in the same family with Logan.

And to the OP, sorry, but just because someone has an opinion you don't like, doesn't make it a "judgment". At least I know I wasn't judging you, and some of the other ladies who posted "negative" comments on the name I know post here a lot, and they weren't judging you as a person either, I feel confident in saying. You wanted to know what people thought of the name Rogue, especially with brother Logan, and we let you know. Not everyone is going to give positive feedback with every name suggested on the boards. If they did, the boards would be pretty useless.

If the (fairly prominent) X-Men association with your kids' names doesn't bother you, and you feel that Rogue is THE name, then by all means, go ahead and use it! She's your daughter, and there have certainly been more unusual names given to children these days, lol. The most important thing is that you absolutely love the name, and if you love it enough to use it despite the X-Men thing, then that's fantastic.

As for the person who said people still use Damian, despite The Omen...like Kae said, that name was in use long before that book was written and the movie(s) came out. Rogue is a word that became an X-Man's codename (her real name is Anna, I think. Or Anna Marie. Something like that.). That's the only time I've ever heard it used as a name, and X-Men has been around a pretty long time...the comic books, a few different TV series, the movies...What with the revived widespread popularity of superheroes at the moment, people are going to make the connection, especially with an older

What you're overlooking is that the first meaning of "rogue" in the dictionary is negative...here's Merriam Webster's first set of definitions:

Main Entry: rogue
Pronunciation: \ˈrōg\
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1561
1 : vagrant, tramp
2 : a dishonest or worthless person : scoundrel
3 : a mischievous person : scamp
4 : a horse inclined to shirk or misbehave
5 : an individual exhibiting a chance and usually inferior biological variation

You're only getting one vaguely non-negative meaning in the bunch. These are the meanings people will think of when they hear "Rogue," and that's just linguistic reality. As far as the X-Men, sure there are people who don't read comic books, but few have gotten through the last 10 years without seeing one of the movies, whether they're comic book geeks (I'm not...I liked Batman when I was 10, but I only see the movies these days.)

If you don't want people's opinions, then don't ask for them. As for immature answers to your question, I do not in anyway think that the replies that came from people who did not agree with your choice of name were immature. If anything your attitude seems a might bit immature.

When I see some of the choices that people make for naming there children, I wonder if there is a prize handed out each year to the parent or parents who give their child the most unusual, the most unpronounceable or the name that has the strangest spelling.

As for your name being a month of the year, I don't find it to be unusual at all. When I see or hear the name April or May or June, I do not automatically think of them as being months of the year.

Good Luck with whatever name you choose and good luck to the child that must live with that name. Oops, sorry for being immature.
