Our last name is Thomas, and I was wondering if it's best to rule out names ending with TH? For example, I like the names Elizabeth and Gwyneth, but do you think these sound okay? They end with a "TH" sound and our last names starts with a hard "T" sound. What do you think?

It's fine...a non issue

I think it's absolutely fine. If you last name started with a TH that was pron. TH rather than T, I'd be wary. But with Thomas, I don't think this is an issue at all.

I think those names sound just fine w/ ln Thomas. Elizabeth is slightly easier to say w/ Thomas.

It's okay to do it, but it doesn't sound the best. I think something with a different ending would be better.

The problem that I have when I say it out loud isn't with the "Th" at the beginning of Thomas. It's with the "s" at the end of the name. I must have a problem with my tongue because I have a hard time saying anything other than "Elizabeth Thomath." I'm sure it's just me though. I love the name Elizabeth.

It's fine...they won't run together, because although your name begins with "Th," the sound is "T."

In general, I don't think it's a problem at all. After all, the TH in Thomas is pronounced as a hard T, as you mentioned, so not the same sound despite the repeating letter combo.

Of the two you listed, I do find Elizabeth flows a bit better than Gwyneth with Thomas (even though I love Gwyneth otherwise), but I think that's more because both Gwyneth and Thomas are two syllables, so it just doesn't sound as good to me.

I think it's fine because they don't have the same sound.

good luck!
