old fashioned boys names please

So we decided on a girl name FINALLY.. It's Esther. NN would be Essie.
It's a name both DH and I love!
As well as it's my grandmothers name and due to illness she might not get to meet the baby.
But we are still stuck on a name for a boy. I like very unique names examples like Lennox & Gage, but DH thinks they sound too weird. I also have a weakness for what would be considered too feminine names for boys like Ashley, Laurie & Kearsley, but of course DH hates those type.
So I think out best bet is to find an old fashioned name that isn't very commonly used. I would be happy to find something an traditional and unique as our girl name Esther.
So names like David, Michael & Andrew are out.
Any suggestions out there ?
Thanks

Have you thought about Asher? It's got a similar feel to Ashley, but much more masculine. It's also an old Biblical name, and I think it means happy. Just a thought!

Did you ever read Little Women? One of the main male characters is Laurie. It was orginally considered a name for a boy.

We named our DS (now 20 months old) Mark, and so far he is the only Mark we know of all our friends' and relatives' kids of his generation. Whenever I tell someone his name, they always comment on how nice and traditional it is in this world of "unique" names. Some of the best advice I got on choosing a name was to: 1) think about whether you would want this name for yourself, knowing all you know about life, and 2) think about not only how it will treat your child as a baby and on the playground, but how it will look on a business card. I loved the name Emily for a girl, but to me it's a little girl name rather than a grown woman; you want a name that transcends age. Good luck choosing. . . feel free to use Mark; we love it!
