old fashioned names

Hi,
I really like old names, but many of them have become quite popular. Can anyone think of any old names that are still fairly unpopular? I have a few that I like but only girls; I can't think of any names for boys.
Catherine
Eloise
Lila
Elisabeth (extremely popular, but DH likes it)
Beatrice
Vivian
Other ideas for both girls and boys would be very helpful! Thanks.

Catherine- love the name, but its popularity makes me nervous, especially with all the Kaitlyn/Caitlins who go by similar nn's (Kate/Cate/Katie/Catie/Cady/etc.) It is beautiful though
Eloise- Lovely and spunky, not popular at all
Lila-Pretty, but getting more popular. I would say that on this board, I see it on a good portion of the lists of expecting moms
Elisabeth- It is nice, but also verrrry popular. However, it has lots of nn options, so that could differentiate her. I like Libby and Beth best.
Beatrice- Cute and spunky. Nn Bea is adorable
Vivian- Lovely and so classy

HTH, let me know your thoughts so i can suggest more. Do you have any other kids (might make it easier to match a new name with theirs)

The SSA list would be a great resource for you, btw. The list of popular names from 1900, for example, lists Helen, Ethel, Edna and Mabel (among others already mentioned) in the top 25 alone. Traditionally popular names slightly dominate the male side, but George, Edward, Arthur, Alfred, Eugene and Oscar are all in the top 50 (and not quite as common today). Going further down on the lists should yield some even more obscure gems -- Finley at 995 (just surprised me ), Ephraim, Elden and Oswald for boys and even some variants like Dortha, Celesta and Henretta for girls.
It's really interesting. ;) Here's a link to 1900, but you can look up any year you like. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi

Hi there, Tracy. I like your list! Here are my thoughts on it thus far:
Catherine-This is nice, but 'Kate' names in generally are dreadfully common. If you're at all interested in spelling it w/a 'K', then you could use the nn Kit/Kitty. That way, you get your Katherine, but she won't be lost in the sea of them because her nn is unique. (And adorable!)
Eloise-Ooh, I love this one. It's not too popular at all, but 'Ellie' names in general are.
Lila-I love it! It's definitly rising in popularity, but probably nothing to worry about.
Elisabeth (extremely popular, but DH likes it)-True, but it's a great name. Perhaps you could use Elisabeth, but give her an uncommon nn. Bess or Bette are two darling ones that come to mind.
Beatrice-I really like this. It's known, but not popular.
Vivian-This is not my favorite, but I don't mind it. It's rising in popularity, but not too high yet.
Here are some more (uncommon/old fashioned) girl suggestions:
Alice
Beatrix
Cordelia
Dora
Flora
Florence
Hattie
Isadora
June
Leora
May
Maureen
Noreen
Pearl

Winifred
Here are a few boy names to fit your preference:
Albert
Arthur
Douglas
Edward
Francis
Hugh
Jerome
Norman
Neil
Stewart
Vincent
Walter
Hope this helps!
