What do you think of the name Emeritt for a girl, with Emmy as a nickname? I have also seen Emeritt spelled Emerett and Emmeritt. I know the name's a bit different, but I came up with it because I like the

I think it's too close to Everett, which is 100% boy to me.

What about another way to get to Emmy? Such as:

Emmeline
Emera
Emory (which could also be boy, but I think it works for a girl)
Emilia
Emlyn

AJ, enjoying life with C.

It makes me think of Everett and Emmett, too, and those are having a resurgence among boys, so it just seems like one of those "riffing off of current boys' names" names to me. I love Merrit (or the Scandinavian spelling of Marit,) though.

And my husband just tossed in "United Arab Emirates," a rich area in the Middle East, where Dubai is located. So that's the man take on it from this household.

I'm really not too crazy about it at all. If you're looking for a less-used alternative to Emily, how about Emelinda? Or Emmeline? I agree with PP, Emeritt reminds me a lot of Everett. Or "emeritus" as in "President Emeritus". Hmmm... that has me thinking- how about Emerita? Still has some of the sound that you're going for but looks and sounds a little more feminine.

Good luck!
