I was just wondering what do you think of the name Pauline for a newborn. Is it to old fashion? What kind of middle name would go with it? It has to start with a d and Dianne or any form of it is out so is Danielle.

What do you think, am I crazy for liking it?

I like it! I guess it depends on one's taste, but I've always sought out names that are so old they suddenly feel fresh again! I think Pauline is such a name.

But Pauline is not terribly out of fashion. As I recall, several celebrities have used it within the past decade or so (Princess Stephanie of Monaco? Wynonna Judd?).

Some ideas for D middle names:

Pauline Daphne
Pauline Dana
Pauline Daria
Pauline Delilah
Pauline Denise
Pauline Devon
Pauline Dinah
Pauline Dominique
Pauline Dorothea

My favorite is Pauline Daphne.

Pauline is not my style, but I wouldn't think it was weird if I heard it. And if you decide it feels old, she can be a Lina.
How about:
Pauline Deidre
Pauline Donelle
Pauline Delilah
Pauline Deondra

Pauline D.............. sigh. D names are really hard. They either seem too old-fashioned (Dolores, Dorothy, Della) or sound too much like Pauline (Darlene, Dellene, Dion) or are too out there (Destiny, Diamond)

Most of the Paulines I've known were named after a Paul, usually a dad or grandpa. It's nms but it's an okay name. Suggestions:

Pauline Dawn
Pauline Dale
Pauline Delaney

Thanks everyone I liked most of the suggestions....

Pauline Dalilah

Pauline Daphane

Those were my favorite. Pauline was my mother's name. I just wondered if it would work now.

Everyone had such good ideas, I didn't think of any of those.

ooh, I love the name Pauline!!! :-) It's very pleasant-sounding, and not overly-used, so it's kind of "uncommon", but yet it's not unrecognizable. I love that combination- makes it a very refreshing choice! :-)

for middle names:

Pauline Devorah
Pauline Desiree
Pauline Damaris
Pauline Dalia
Pauline Diandra

Just some thoughts....

Lucky for you, with the craze toward frumpy and old-fashioned, Pauline can slide in nicely on the playground. She even seems more fresh and hip than her playmates Hazel, Evelyn, and Emma, for example. Having such strong family significance just adds to its appeal, in your case.

Personally, I prefer Paulina. It is catchier and really shines, IMO.

My favorite D- mn would be-

Pauline Delaina

Pauline Daria

Pauline Darrah

Pauline Dahlia

Pauline Deirdre

Paulina Dior

Paulina Danae

Paulina Darynne

yes, it does seem way too "old" to me. I don't think I've come across anyone named Pauline who would be younger right now that mid-60s. it's not what you'd call the type of "comeback" classic.

are you drawn to it to honor a family member named Paul? I always only ever thought of that as a feminine version of Paul. it's much too associated with that.

good luck

I like it precisely BECAUSE it's probably not prime for a comeback. If you're looking for an old fashioned name that will not become trendy, this may be a good option. I read in some baby naming source (can't remember where) that the "ine" names that are also feminized male names are not springing back with the other old classics.

I like it, and love that it is a more traditional name. It is not common right now, so your DD will stand out, but not so uncommon that people won't know how to spell it. Is there a family significance?

Pauline Darcy
Pauline Daphne
Pauline Deborah
Pauline Deidre
Pauline Daisy
Pauline Donna
Pauline Desiree
