Opinions about Wilson needed!

I am pregnant with a little boy. I am looking for a name that is more than one syllable, definitely masculine, but not common and so far Wilson is top of my list. My other children are Elliot and Lily. I like Wilson (it was my husband's gma's maiden name) but everyone in my family said that their initial thought was of the basketball Wilson from that Tom Hanks movie! So, do you have that first impression of Wilson??

BTW, I would like to use "Goody" as a middle name (it is a family name) and our last name is one syllable beginning with a B.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have NO idea about that Tom Hanks movie. But whatever it is, it will pass. I was living in NYC when I named my DD Caroline 9+ years ago. The "Caroline in the City" TV show was popular too, I guess, but everyone quickly forgot about it!

I love using family names. Geez, Louise, you get all those Mason, Madison, Emerson, Dawson, etc. names floating around. Wilson is a great one!

Wilson Goody -- sounds great to me!

I love Wilson, and I think it was a volleyball, not a basketball in Tom Hanks' movie, but no- that association didn't even cross my mind and it took me a while to realize what you were talking about!

LOVE Wilson!

I like Wilson a lot--and having a child named after a sporting goods brand isn't so bad. My son is Penn--he has his own line of tennis balls. *grin* I'm not quite as sure on Goody...it makes me think of Puritan women.

Actually, my association with the name Wilson is a character on the show 7th Heaven- but honestly, I can't even remember what he looks like, much less what type of character he was! lol :) Had not thought of the Tom Hanks movie at all. The name Wilson is growing on me, I kind of like it. Don't really care for the mn Goody, even though it is a family name. I think it would work better for a girl child. JMO. Wilson is a great choice. Would altering Goody to Goode make the mn less significant for you? Since it's not the *actual* family name? Just a thought... good luck, whatever you decide! :)

Thanks for all your responses! I think we will definitely go with Wilson! I have a few months to decide the MN.

Thanks!

Wilson is great. Goody is okay - at least it is significant.

Love Wilson and didn't think about Castaway until you mentioned it. My only thought on using it with Goody is that they are both brand names (Goody makes hair brushes and other hair products). Might be so obscure that it doesn't matter, but I didn't think about Wilson as a brand name until you paired it with Goody...
