Opinions on names and history please?

Would you let history influence your choice of names? For example, my son is Nicholas and my DH loves the name Alexandra (nn Allie.) But Nicholas and Alexandra were the czar and czarina of Russia during the revolution and met an unpleasant end together. This is the only reason that I don't like the name. DH thinks I am being silly. Does any one have an opinion? Thanks.

extremely few people, if any, will ever think of that unless you mention it to them

those are two very mainstream names, I'm sure there are tons of siblings in this country named Nicholas and Alexandra

Personally, I wouldn't have known that fact. I wouldn't worry about it. Alexandra's a beautiful name.

I think you're overthinking this name-thing.

When I think of Nicholas and Alexandra I immediately think of the Czar and Czarina. It wouldn't bother me as much if they weren't such a tragic couple. Imagine them and all of their children gunned down. It's just too much of a sad connection to me.

I would personally giggle if I met them. I couldn't help thinking of the famed Nicholas and Alexandra... Sorry.

I think that most people would not make the connection in the US, unless they were into history. If you love the names use them. We are considering Franklin, which is a family name. BUT our oldest is Eleanor...Eleanor & Franklin?!?!?! Don't know if I can go there eventhough I love both names AND there are Joseph & Henry in between them. We'll see...hopefully this will be Lucy & we won't have to worry about it.

I'm a history and russian area studies minor in college, and I'd have to say I would definitely think of it, but I think I'm in the minority. I know lots of siblings Nicholas and Alexander and Nicholas was the son of Alexander. I think your safe as long as you don't have a couple more daughters and name them Olga, Anastacia, or Tatiana...

Funny enough, I'm pretty sure Lucy was the name of the girl Franklin was cheating on Eleanor with. I'm almost positive....the irony....
