Opinions needed!

I just need to bounce this off people...
Our son is Jack (his given name) and we're just not sure on a couple names.

Violet Sophia (Violet is after my hubby's grandma who was killed by a d. driver, so it holds special sig. and we love Sophia)

Sophia (don't have a md name yet) we would call her Sophie (and it's not that popular for a first name around here...we see it as a mn mostly)

So, which one do you think?
Jack & Violet
Jack & Sophie

Next question...

For a boy I love Gus! I'm not sure how much hubby likes it though. I also love Truitt Foster, but I could go with Truman. What are your opinions on Truman?

Jack & Truman
Jack & Gus
Thanks!

Hello and welcome!

Any of your choices is a fitting choice to Jack.

Since Violet is special, why not

Sophia Violet?

Jack and Sophie is adorable but quite predictable. At any rate, I like the sound of the two together slightly better than Jack and Violet. But again, either works VERY well. You comment that Sophie/Sophia is mostly a mn there. I've heard it only ONCE here, and not at all in my hometown. However, I just want to make sure you understand the magnitude of the name at large.

Sophia has been in the top 100 since 1997. There have been approximately 75,000 little girls named Sophia in that time frame. Add to that- last year it was #12- with 12,458 girls named Sophia. Add to that- Sofia has been climbing right behind it. There were 5087 little girls name Sofia last year alone. Sophie as a given name is also well used. There were 2397 girls named Sophie last year.

If you love the name, you love it. Just understand that with its exploding popularity, she may be the only one on her hometown cheerleading squad and meet 3-5 on every other squad she sees... In fact, your Jack and Sophie are going to meet other Jack and Sophie sibling duos! Just to point out, not as criticism. Both names are incredibly appealing, that's why so many parents are using them!

On the contrary, Violet is in the Top 500 and growing but it has a long, long way to go. If you like nn, Lettie is cute with Jack!

Now to boy names-

Gus is great with Jack. In fact, I think Gus IS the "new Jack" but it, too, has a long, long way to go to get that popular.

Truman is a neat name. I like it. It fits pretty well with Jack, but stiffens Jack up a bit. Gus and Jack sound like a ball of mischief waiting to be unleashed...sounds like fun to me! I love little brother duos!

Best wishes,

Ginger

I love Violet for you. It has more of a special quality, thanks to g-grandma, and sounds excellant with Jack.

I also like all your boy names, btw, although I think Truitt or Truman stand out a bit more than Gus, KWIM? They intrigue me. ;)

I'm sorry, but I don't know what KIWM stands for! Love to answer you question, but I don't know what it is! :)

Sorry! No question, really -- it just means "Know what I mean?" So if we all weren't so lazy and actually typed everything out, that sentence would have read:

"I also like all your boy names, by the way, although I think Truitt or Truman stand out a bit more than Gus, know what I mean?"

I know there's a key for these on here somewhere, but generally speaking ...

KWIM = know what I mean
BTW = by the way
LOL = laugh(ing) out loud
ROFL = rolling on the floor laughing
LMBO = laughing my butt off
GMV = got my vote
HTH = hope that helps
FOB = father of baby
SO = significant other
DH = dear husband
DF = dear fiance
DD = dear daughter
DS = dear son
PP = previous post(er)
OP = original post(er)

I'm sure I forgot a few but that should confuse you enough for now. ;)

HTH!

hello!! well i like violet-its my oldest dds name-lol. but i also love sophie. why not just name your dd sophie, instead of sophia? personally, i dont like the "a" names as much as the ones that end-like christine instead of christina and isabelle instead of isabella...but thats just me. and i think jack and violet or jack and sophie both sound good together-i actually love the name jackson, but cant use it cuz our last name ends in -son and it wouldnt sound right...anyway as far as boys, i like gus, but its not one of my faves...i like truman a lot and i like the sound of truman and jack together. good luck!!

For a girl, why not wait until you see her that first time...then you might just know whether she's a Sophia or a Violet. If she "looks like" a Violet, name her Violet Sophia. If she looks like a Sophia, name her Sophia Violet. Either way, lovely name, can't go wrong with either one.

For a boy, I like Truman and Gus. Truitt is not my style, sorry.

HTH!

I love both Violet Sophia and Sophia Violet. I think both combinations are gorgeous and that they both go perfectly with Jack.

Of the boys options, Truman is my favorite, followed by Gus. I do prefer Gus as a nickname -- for August or Angus -- but it's okay on its own. I'm not wild about Truitt, but I really think it would grow on me. (One caveat -- if either Truman or Truitt is a family surname, it gets my full endorsement.)

Hi there. Great job naming Jack! That's very nice.

I really think that all of your choices are excellent. Violet Sophia is my personal favourite, & it's certainly less popular than Sophia/Sophie as a given name. Sophia/Sophie is sweet though as well. They both go nicely w/Jack.

Gus is really cute, & a nice brother to Jack. Did you like it as a nn for maybe August? Gus on its own is a tad nick-namey, imo. Truman is neat, & I also like Foster as a fn. Truitt is nms; Truman is more straight forward.

Hope this helps!
