Hey all!
I have a couple names picked out and I was just wondering what y'all thought of them. Or if you have any suggestions because I cant come up with a boy name to save my life! I have two names that I like:
Girl: Wynter Karolina or Karolina Wynter (not sure which way sounds best)I've always loved the name Wynter because its different and it reminds me of the snow on trees in the winter. Just looks so pretty :)
Boy: Shelby Christopher
(I know its a unisex name but does it sound to much like a girls name?)
This name my sig other likes because he absolutely loves Mustangs and I felt like it was a cute name.
Thanks for any suggestions or opinions!! :)

Hi - I think I like Karolina Wynter better than Wynter Karolina.

From your choices I really like Karolina Wynter, I am not sure about the spelling, but I think it would grow on me. I am not a fan of Shelby for a boy or a girl, but all the Shelby's I have known are girls! Sorry!

I think that Shelby is too much of a girl's name. I agree with the pp, Chase or Ryder would be cute.

I'd stay away from Shelby as a name for a boy.

I like Wynter Karolina better. I thought "What a nice 'Karolina Wynter we're having,' "

I don't mean for this to sound rude at all, just giving my impression since you want to know ...

Both Wynter Karolina and Karolina Wynter look incredibly misspelled. If I saw this I would definitely think the parents were either very poorly educated or really lower class (since purposefully spelling a name incorrectly seems to be a trend with that particular population). Even spelled properly, Carolina Winter just sounds like a phrase. As in "We had a rather mild Carolina Winter this year" or something like that. For that reason, I just wouldn't pair two words together to make a name. One or the other would be fine. Either Caroline/Carolina with a different mn or Winter as a mn would be much better, IMO.

As to the boy name, I'd rethink Shelby, at least as a formal fn. It may be listed as unisex, but I've honestly never heard a boy called this, so it just screams girl to me. If you really can't agree on another, perhaps you could switch it to Christopher Shelby and call him that as an at-home nn.

As far as flow- Wynter Karolina or Karolina Wynter is fine. I would use it by which name she will be called. If Wynter, then Wynter Karolina. If Karolyna, then Karolina Wynter.

If the name is intended to remind you of Winter, then I'd spell it Winter. It's a long-running fave of mine, personally. I would prefer Carolina. I think it will simplify her life as she grows up.

Shelby Christopher has great flow. I like the sound of it a lot for a boy. You are right, it is unisex. I know two men named Shelby but they are quite old. The problem is that it's a Top 100 girl name right now; so he'll be running into girl Shelbys. Still I know people who continue to use Morgan/Taylor for boys. The story behind it is adorable, in your case. Kids like to have a story behind their names. Think long and hard about this one, though! Is Ford out? What about initials FM or GT? I don't know how old your significant other is, but guessing he's 22-35--- ask him how he would have liked being named Courtney/Ashley/Lindsay/Lesley during his generation? If it doesn't bother him, Shelby's a go!

I know a Shelly (man) who was named after a famous football coach in 1964. Almost immediately after that, Shelly got popular for girls. He is mistaken ALL THE TIME for a girl on mail, the telephone, even in introductions...

One thing that could help would be a double name- Jack Shelby, John Shelby, James Shelby, etc.

And someone did make a good point- In this day and age, nothing is SAFE anyway... If you name him Cole, Ryan, Drew, Dylan, etc., all of these are being used on girls. The difference is Shelby is coming to be KNOWN as a girl's name.
Good luck, Ginger

I love the girl name both ways!!! Totally my style! But, I do think Shelby would be thought of as a girl, and might get confusing for him. What about Christopher Shelby, and you can use Shelby at home, like as his nickname and Christopher or Chris for school and public?? Just my opinion. Good luck!
