We are having a boy in the next few weeks and have picked the name Griffin Riley. Dh LOVES the name Finn and while I also like it a lot- I just thought it sounded a little short so we went with a name that could have Finn as a nn. Actually, at this point we almost never refer to him as anything but Finn. Anyway, people keep sending things to “Fin” and now I am a little worried that he’ll spend the rest of his life explaining that he spells it Finn. Is it ok that we are spelling his nn as Finn even though it is coming from the name Griffin?
Thanks-
Annie

Griffin nn Finn is one of my most favorite ways to get the name Finn!!!
yes, i think so. if you wanted though, you could spell griffinn with 2 n's? maybe grifinn? ok, maybe not. but i think so! think how many people are name "sue" for example and their name is susan? or richard and their nn's are rick or dick. i don't think it will be an issue...people will get used to it!
happy weekend!

First of all, "Fin" as a name is just stupid, so blame the people who think that for just being stupid. "Fin" means either "The End" or "that part of a fish that makes it move." Of course it's spelled Finn. And it's a great name. I agree with the woman who said that people will figure it out when they get the birth announcements (and if they don't, then they really are just stupid).
Darn that Julia Roberts for naming her son Phinnaeus (and who thought up that spelling, anyway)! Finneas (nicknamed Finn) has been one of my favorites for a long time. I guess it's ruined, now.
Congratulations! And yes, have Griffin and call him Finn.
Finn is so nice. Plus, if he ever wants another nn- he can be 'Riley' (m/n).
I'm somewhat surprised anyone spelled it "Fin" but if they saw his full name, I guess they were just trying very hard to be correct.
Which is kinda sweet of them.
Fin isn't that bad at all.
It's the sound that matters.
My name can be spelled like 3 different ways & I'm often asked how to spell it.
don't even get me started w/ my last name!

Griffin nn Finn is fine, and people will get used to the nn spelling.
