My husband and I are TTCing and already thinking about baby names. We have a boys name picked already and would like some opinions on the girls name we like. Parents names are Leslie Michelle and John Carl-William, Last name is Mekelburg. The middle name is NOT changing, it is for my mom.

What are you thoughts on Caroline(Not Carolyn) Christina possible nickname Carly.

All opinions are welcome.

Caroline is a lovely classic. I wouldn't normally put it with Christina BUT since it's in honor of your mom I'd say go for it. Cece could be another nn.

Best of luck as you TTC - I am doing the same.

I should say that one of my big priorities in naming is NOT dating a child too obviously - and Caroline has a timeless feel, BUT I've seen many babies named Caroline lately. I think it's right on the edge of becoming a trend ... Christina, on the other hand, is also timeless in its way, but it's been used so consistently throughout the years, it's hard to estimate the age of a Christina. Both names are solidly strong, lovely and feminine.

All the best to you!

To me, the best formula for naming a child is 1. A unique first name that appealed to the parents 2. A family or significant middle name 3. The name the child is called by should be reasonably spelled and "grow up" well with the child

Caroline Christina is very pretty. Perfect for my personal naming formula LOL!

Another poster commented that Caroline is on the verge of a trend. True, but that also depends on your region. Where I am, (deep south) Caroline has been used consistently and repeatedly for over a hundred years and I know seven of them under the age of ten.

To me, there are five names that are never dated, never trendy, and never really overdone. They are the TRUE classics. They are: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Elizabeth and Caroline. You will always see them used, but as a rule they are well-liked and universally appealing over time; whereas other popular names get burned out.

Personally, I prefer a more unique name; however, I never frown when I meet a Caroline. Lovely for a female at any age, which is very important.

I would change just one thing: I think the nn Caro (pro. like the sound in care, not Kay-ro or Carr-ro.) is absolutely adorable. Best wishes, Ginger

I just love Caroline. It is so elegant, yet sweet, timeless, and suitable for any age. I live in the NORTH and I've met Carolines of every age from eighties, sixties, forties, twenties, teens, and babies. Actually, if you look at the SSA list the name has been staying steady over the past few years, so I don't see a huge increase coming.

Caroline is a beautiful name.

She may take you up on Carly, with your last name being 3 syllables!

I think all your names are great.
