Hi,
What do you think of these two names both for a girl. Poppy Elizabeth and Holland (I don't have a middle name yet)? Thanks for the input. Jessica

Neither is my style at all. Especially Poppy, that is just terrible to me. Sorry! :) I can see her in elementary school now, being called "poopy". As an adult, i would hate having that name myself. What about Piper? It's similar but I like it much better. Holland is ok, just not really my style. GL!

To me Poppy sounds just like Papi, which is Daddy in Spanish, so I wouldn't choose it. Holland is ok.

I'm not a fan of trendy names, and admire your pursuit for a unique name, BUT....sorry, I'm just not a fan of Poppy. Wow. Ok with Holland, as long as you were ok if your daughter preferred someday to be referred as Holly (which seems like the probable nickname).

I know an adult named Poppy who is a lovely, compassionate, very professional woman. It has a British sound to me--perhaps because the Poppy I know was born in Hong Kong & has a slight English accent. I really like flower names, and I think Poppy is vibrant, spunky, and not musty sounding at all--sort of in the same category as Daisy for me. Not as old fashioned sounding, or as common, as Rose, Violet & Lily.

I really like Holland as well. I see it as a place name alternative to the unisex (and probably unusable for now at least) Paris, or male London, or trendy Brooklyn. It has a clean, non-frilly, modern sound to it without seeming at all trendy. Very different from the trends that are around now--either a) variations of popular names, b) frilly & old fashioned, or c) Irish.

Poppy is cute- it sounds a little nickname-ish to me, but I still think it's cute. I don't care too much for Holland, though. It doesn't sound like a first name to me at all, and if I had to guess, I'd think it was for a boy before I thought it was for a girl. It reminds me of Holland codes, though, from that personality test...so I don't quite care for it. Best of luck to you!
