Over used names....

Hi I'm not pregnant or do I plan to ever be again! lol...2 are quite enough for me.
But I came across this board and thought I'd put in my two cents.

Thank you for this post. While I live in the United States, I'm sure they are very similar. My baby is due in 10 days and I was curious what names were WAY over used. It is hard to tell on baby boards or from the last years census, because I don't know what the "new" name for this year will be. We have decided on the name "Lilia" almost for sure. I know Lily is pretty popular, but how popular do you think it is?? Thanks!

LOL..well I found the site but then I see it's an iVillage link.
Nadine, I definitely agree with you, esp about all the Emmas/Emilys. My niece was an Emily on the beginning of the trend, and now there are at least 5 other "Em" names in her school. Its a beautiful name (she was named after my grandmother) but I agree its popularity is beginning to make it overused.
As far as boys go, from my experience the overused names are the Aiden/Caiden/Jadens.
Since (almost all) children in the U.S. are registered with the Social Security Administration at birth these days, I think they probably have the most comprehensive list of names by popularity. The information is updated annually (usually around mother’s day) with the statistics on the previous year added in.
It has several really useful search features. You can get a list of names by popularity for any year since 1879. You can also view the top names by state. My favorite feature allows you to research the popularity of a name just entering it in the search box and it will give you that name’s ranking for as far back as it has the data, assuming it is in the top 1000 names for either male or female.
