Peterson for a boy?

My DH's first name is Peter, a family name, and he goes by his MN. Any thoughts on continuing the trend but using Peterson instead, either as a first or middle name. (Unless, of course we choose Scott for a FN!) What about as a first name? Can you picture a little boy named Peter? I just know so many older guys with the name it doesn't seem fresh. Any NN other than Pete? Thanks for your thoughts.

Since I'm a swede I do not like Peterson cause its a swedish Surename.

But why not Peter Junior?

Peter is a good name, nice name for a boy.

I'll give somemore names that comes from Peter.

I like Peterson.

I seem to know of several Peters and one 'just' Pete who are all eight and younger.

I like the name Peter and Peterson is a different way of carrying on the family tradition. Pierce and Pierson which mean Peter and son of Peter are another alternative.

Best of luck,

I like Peterson! And the NNs Pete or Peter are fine. As someone has already pointed out, Pierce is a form of Peter and I think it would be fine to use Pierce as a NN--or even in place of Peter/Peterson as a FN, if you prefer. (Pierce my DSs MN, so of course I like it!) I really think Pete is a cute NN for a little boy, though! :)

My DH is named Peter (he goes by Pete) and our DS is Nicholas Peter. I personally prefer Peter over Peterson. My DH's father was Roger Pierre and DH was named Peter after him.

My brothers name is Peter. He is 34 now. He doesn't like Peter, but prefers Pete. I always call him Petey. I also taught a first grader named Peter. It was very cute on him. He always went by Peter. I don't like Peterson because of the whole Scott Peterson thing. If Dh doesn't go by Peter why not just name him Peter too and call him whatever seems to fit when he is here. My brother is Peter Quinten. Good luck! Jules

I don't like Peter because of the whole "male genitalia" thing but I do like Pierce/Pearce and the English form of Peter; Piers (pronounced: PEERZ). Peterson makes me think of Scott Peterson just like it does the previous poster. Pierce or Piers make good alternatives, I think.

I'm sorry to say that it reminds me of that beast Scott Peterson and for that reason I'd have to give it my thumbs down. You don't want to name your baby something that each time you say his name it's going to bring to memory a bad situation. Just my thoughts and I'm sorry that I have to be negative to your idea for a name! Peter Jr. sounds great to me, if you don't want to call him Peter call him Jr.
