You will be able to change your vote.

None of these are really my style. I voted for Jaela, but would consider Jacinta as well. I'm just not sure how to pronounce it correctly, so I felt I couldn't vote for it.

In response to your other post, I will say that ethnic names rarely get a good response on boards like this b/c people either aren't familiar with them or aren't comfortable with them. You have to decide if it's more important to you and your child to have a name that you love (with possibly strong ethnic ties) or one that might be more widely accepted.
I have never heard of several of the names on your list, so they do sound "made up" to me (Jasira, Kessiah, Keemya, Ky'miah).
I'm personally not fond of most names that are also words (Patience, Serenity). I like them as middle names, but I think they carry too much baggage as a first name. What if your little Patience isn't exactly patient? Or if Serenity doesn't live up to her name? I'd rather use a first name that has the same meaning or put those in the mn slot. (For the record, my DD's middle names are Joy and May, so I have used "words" as names. ;-) )
Kirsten is simply not my style, and I have too many bad associations with it -- all the Kirstens I've known have been snobby. I'm sure that's not true of every Kirsten, but b/c of it, it's hard for me to like the name. I much prefer Kristen.
Pandora isn't bad, but the story behind it carries a bit too much baggage, IMO, too.
Good luck finding something you love!
Stephanie
there are stereotypes because people dont want people of color expressing their heritage in such ways as names. it is preferred that we assimilate ourselves and our children and that assimilation begins with giving them non-ethnic names.
a name like Shaniqua is a cool name, and is very popular among black-american women and girls. It is almost isntantly identifiable as Black, and honestly, I like that about it. Some of the names people create, in any race, are just ridiculous. The spellings, the lack of meaning, it all bugs me. And some people choosing regular objects to name their kids (like Apple or Denim-- a white mother and black mother) are equally weird (in my opinion).
i want my son and daughter ( to have a name that reflects our cultural heritage. I cant believe I shying away from so-called "black" names just to avoid stereotypes or people discriminating against my child (which will happen). If I have a girl, she will be called KAMEA (Female - Hawaiian)
Precious One Pronounced Ka-MAY-ah.
