Place names?

I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about place names for children, such as Paris, London, Brooklyn, Ireland, Dallas, Savannah, Aspen, etc. Are there some you like better than others? Do they sounds better on girls or boys?

I'm not pregnant yet, but there are some location names I would definitely consider, and I wanted to get opinions on this...

TIA!

ETA to fix spelling and to add that I'm not necessarily looking for more name suggestions (but I'd love to see what you've got in mind), but wondering how people react to place names for children, i.e. like them for boys or girls, only like them on girls, etc.

Just met a little guy named Boston. I don't mind place names as long as they aren't too off the wall and end with ville. lol

Place names are fine as long as they're not too weird, and like the prevous poster said, don't end in ville (or boro, for that matter). Also, remember many place names, like Houston, Dallas, and Columbus for example, are in honor of people - they were people names before they were place names.

I love place names, within reason of course!!

My daughter's middle name is Elizabeth...actually after Elizabeth, Mississippi!! She kicked the atlas when I was pg to pick her name!! Good thing she didn't kick the town Kosciusko or something like that!!!

I also seriously considered her first name to be Providence, but there wouldn't be any good nicknames. I love names for boys like London, Boston, etc. And I think Aspen is cute for a girl.

I couple in my town recently named a little girl Avalon after a town in California!

Anyway, I like somewhat unique names, and names that are actually familiar words are great!

Just my 2 cents!

I don't like most place names...I think alot of them sound tacky and white-trash (like London, Paris, and Brooklyn). Others, like Dallas and Aspen, sound like they should belong to soap opera characters, not real people.

I haven't read ahead yet but I am one of the few that like "place" names. Especially if that place has special meaning. My children are all named after cities in Montana. We lived there when my first two were born and kept the trend with my daughter later. We are TTC #4 and are going to keep with the Montana name theme. We, of course, love all of the names too! Let's see. I know an Ireland (g), Montana (g), Brooklyn (g), Madison (b). Britney Spears is thinking of naming her boy London, but to me London is more a girl's name - I guess b/c a girl on my Expecting board named her daughter London.

I'm not big on place names. *However* I know a little girl named Vienna and I think that that is a beautiful girly sounding name. I really like that. The parents met in Vienna.

Hope
