Hi everybody!
Thanks for all your help with picking a name that starts with Ol.
We now know that it's a girl and from the list that I came up with my husband selected Oliana.

The idea was to have a name that will be easy for her to live with at school and in adult life...

Please let me know how this name sounds to you from that point of view.

Thanks!

It could work, I suppose, but I'm afraid my first thought was "oily anna"- not very nice at any time, but especially during those early teen years...

I'm sorry, I kinda thought the same thing as SI when I first heard the name. How are you pronouncing it, I'm hearing it two different ways when I say it aloud? Or do you have any other choices you were looking at?

i'm not into "O" names myself, but if i were, Oliana is a great name. it makes me think Oleander (the flower). but do you pronouce it O-LEE-ANA or O-LE-AHNA (or something completely different)? are you set on that spelling? what about Oleanna or Olianna?

good luck and hope this helps.

I'm not really warming to it myself. I know a lady named Oriana (O-RE-AH-NA)which sounds prettier to me.

My first thought was Oleo (sp?) ... the margarine my mom uses at her house. It also reminds me of White Oleander, which I believe was a movie where the woman kills her husband (??? not positive, maybe I'm confusing it with something else?). Anyway, those were my initial impressions.

It just doesn't sit right for me. Sounds a little like a low-fat butter spread.

Oleanna is the name of a play by David Mamet. I prefer that spelling, but think the name is pretty either way.

Hmm. I prefer Eliana, but it's okay. I just think this sounds a lot harsher.

How would you pronounce it?? Oh lee AH nuh or Oh lee ANN nuh
That would make a difference for me.

I grew up with an "Olena" (Oh LEE nuh) and I really like that. With Olena the Olie is not so noticeable (as in Rolie Polie Olie).
