I'm not a fan of Steele or Diesel. They sound like a cartoon super hero to me. There are lots of other strong/tough guy names if that's what your husband is looking for. I know the pp made fun of Stone - but I love that name.
Ideas: Brock Edward Blake Edward Bronson Edward (ala charles bronson) Conrad Edward Cole Edward Clinton Edward (ala clint eastwood) Drake Edward Grant Edward Garner Edward (ala James Garner) Gage Edward Jake Edward Jack Edward Luke Edward Pierce Edward Ridge Edward Rock Edward Stone Edward Sloane Edward Vaughn Edward Vincent Edward (and call him Vin - it's better than diesel!)
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but only to given an honest opinion per your request. To me, Steele and Diesel sound silly, like romance-novel or soap-opera names. What I don't get is why your husband gets to name your child. If that is the compromise that works for you both, that's one thing. But if you are not comfortable with a name, it should be off the table.
I think of the movie Zoolander and Ben Stiller's look "Blue Steele"
What about: Weston Edward, nn West - this is cool, but not too corny Graham Edward, nn Gray Grayson Edward, nn Gray Cash Edward Dominic Edward, nn Dom Vincent Edward, nn Vince Dean Edward Archer Edward Lochlan Edward, nn Lock Declan Edward, nn Dec

I think of Remington Steele and then "Steely Dan," and "steely dan" is another name for - ahem - male anatomy, so I say no. :) Sorry.
I love the name Edward, though - any chance of that as a first name?
AJ, enjoying life with C.

Edward is a very nice classic, but I dislike both Steele and Diesel.

Not my style at all... very corny and over masculine... sounds like he's trying too hard, KWIM?

I think both parents should have veto power over any name they don't like, unless they're being totally unreasonable and vetoing everything.
