I'm due in september and finally my husband and I have agreed on a name but I'm wondering if its too close to my other child's name. And does it really matter? I have an 18 month boy named Ty and we're thinking we like Trey William for our next one. Is Ty and Trey too close? Thanks for your help.

You may want to consider what the future will be like.....this comes from my sister-n-law just this weekend so that is why I bring it up. She has 2 boys, Benjamin and Bradley. She said she always is messing up the names. In her case, she will combin the 2 names and instead of saying Ben or Brad, it comes out Bren half the time. She said its because they both start with B and she starts to say the wrong name and tries to correct herself. Does that make any sense the way I am explaining it??

I myself have 3 boys now and yes, I sometimes do call my kids by the wrong name if I am trying to rush or something. And my boys names are not alike--Brendan, Aaron, & newborn Joshua. (Poor Josh gets called Aaron a lot!)

As for Ty and Trey, I do think they are a bit too much alike. But that does not mean that you shouldn't use Trey if you love it.

Yes, they are too close. Trey is also a nickname for the third. I'd chose another name.

I do think they are too close. If its the perfect name for you and you honestly can't agree on anything else, use it, but if their closeness will bug you, then I wouldn't. Here are some names I think go nicely with Ty that you can consider:
Ty & Ethan
Ty & Shay
Ty & Evan*
Ty & Bennett
Ty & Cory
Ty & Shane*
Ty & Drew/Andrew
Ty & Eli (Elliott/Elijah/Elias)
Ty & Heath
Ty & Anders
Ty & Brent
Ty & Kyle*
Ty & Mark
Ty & Luke/Lucas*
Ty & Justin
Ty & Grant*
Ty & Rhett
Ty & Rhys

I have * my favourites.

My neighbors growing up were named Brett and Brent. Their mom always said she wished she picked something different for the second boy because they are too close. I think if you are already worried that they are too similar you should find something else.

Actually, I think they go well as sibling names. There's just enough of a difference that you could make it work.

Oh, & to other pps points about confusing their names ... that'll happen no matter what you name the new one! I have 4 sons & am ALWAYS calling them the wrong name ... & their names are nowhere alike. I constantly call my poor ds #3 (Matthew) "Chrismatthew" (ds #2 is Christopher). And my parents were always confusing our names growing up (Bonnie & Dawn). At least w/ your chosen names you'll start out w/ the right consonant!
