I voted for Claire Ann, but I'd prefer Claire Anne or Anna Claire. And if Madelyn had been Madeleine instead, I'd much rather have voted for Madeleine Claire (or Clare) over Claire as a first name. I can't explain it, but the Y spelling of Madeleine just completely turns me off to the name...which is unfortunate, because I actually love the name itself.

Edited to add: I just saw your post on the other board and noticed that your older daughter's name is Emma Grace. So, I had to come back over here and say that now I'm desperately in love with Anna Claire or Clara Ann/Anne for you. Don't know if it matters or not (probably not), but I love Emma Grace and Anna Claire or Clara Anne together. Emma and Anna or Emma and Clara would be so perfectly feminine and old-fashioned. And so, so pretty!

Thanks so much for your feedback...I actually hadn't thought about Anna Claire and that is so pretty! I like it with Emma Grace as well!

I prefer Claire as a fn over Madelyn only because Madelyn/Madison is getting really popular, and this spelling of Madelyn doesn't really appeal to me. HOWEVER, Claire Ann (both being one syllable names) is pretty choppy. If Ann is a family name and that is your reason for wanting to use it, I would alter it a bit to be Claire Annelise, Claire Annabel, Claire Annika, etc. If it isn't a family name, I'd try something with a bit more spunk... Claire Matilda, Claire Simone, Claire Adeline, Claire Bridget, etc.

I'm glad you like it, too. I used to babysit for a little Emma Grace. When her parents named both her and her sister, they intended to call them only by their first names (Anna and Emma). But as time progressed, they ended up being Anna Kate and Emma Grace, double names, all the time. We're Southern, and we do love some double names. But occasionally, as little pet names, I call them Annie and Emmie, so I've always had a little bit of a soft spot for sisters named Anna and Emma. And Emma Grace and Anna Claire sound just as perfect as double names if that's what ends up happening for you, too.

I also liked Nikki's suggestion of Annabel, if you're trying to work Ann in because it's a family name. Emma and Annabel are just as perfect as Emma and Anna. And I love the flow of Annabel Claire (and prefer it over Claire Annabel).

I prefer Claire to Madelyn but I agree with PP that Claire Ann sounds kind of choppy.

Just echoing everyone else, but my vote went to Claire simply because I much prefer it to Madelyn (thought I love Madeleine, Madeline and even Magdalene).

Claire Ann is rather choppy, but I love some of the other suggestions ... Claire Annelise, Annabel Claire, Clara, etc. Also, it may have been mentioned, but if you do like Claire, Clara and Annabel, you may also like Claribel. It could be paired with Ann, if that is a family name, and and it could also be shortened to Clare. Just a thought!
