Please help me with nicknames!

My DH is insistent that he is going to use a nickname for our child. Since I seem to be losing this battle, I would at least like to come up with a nickname I would be okay with. These are the two names we are thinking of using if we have a girl and some nicknames that might fit well. What do you think about them? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LORELEI - Lore, Leila, Lola. (DH likes Lori or Lora)
JULIANA - Jules, Ana, or Ju Ju (just for a little kid - I like the "It's a Wonderful Life Reference"). (DH likes Julie).

This may have already been said, but on Gilmore Girls Rory is used as a nickname for Lorelei.

I think your DH will just call her what comes naturally. That is what NN's are for. It might be something just off the top of his head, but like other pps have said, it does not mean anyone else has to call her that. It's kind of special if he is the only one.

I just wanted to jump in and say that my sisters nn is Lulu, our older brother has called her that for years. It is really cute, I highly recomend it!

I'm such a dork. DH just informed me that the little girl on "It's a Wonderful Life" was called Zuzu (nn for Susan)! Oh well...I still like Juju for Juliana. LOL

LOL! As many times as I've seen the movie (my grandparents are Mary and George ... always thought that was neat ), I could totally hear "Juju" rather than "Zuzu" when you explained it that way. Didn't even think twice. ;)

I like Lora and Ju Ju! I used to know a girl whose nn was Ju Ju Bee-- I think it's a kind of candy.

I have to agree, IMO Rory is pretty adorable. Juli is an idea for a shortened version of Juliana. Some people might not like it because it's not the traditional "Julie", but it's a nn, and therefore a condensed version of the fn. Just a thought. HTH! =)

I think both of these names are gorgeous!

I prefer Lola as nn for Lorelei and Jules as a nn for Juliana.

Just a note on Juliana since our younger DD is Julianna...

My DH and I both like nicknames, so when Julianna was the only name we could agree on for DD#2, we had to figure out a nn we could agree on as well. Now, the name I had actually suggested was Juliana, but he chose the double-N spelling and "ann-uh" (instead of ah-na) pronunciation. So I chose the nn Annie. I think it's very sweet, it's one that everyone is familiar with, and we almost never run into any other little Annies -- occasionally an Anna or a Hannah, but rarely an Annie. With Julianna/Juliana, I also like that it has several nickname options so that she can decide when she's older what she prefers to be called. We use Julianna about 25% of the time and Annie the rest, but she's still only two, so that could change as she gets older.

DH would have preferred the nn Julie, and it still slips out once in a while. It honestly wasn't my favorite at first b/c I just know too many Julies my own age, but it has grown on me and doesn't bother me that he uses it once in a while.

As for Lorelei, I knew one in college who always went by Lori.

It sounds like your DH is like mine and wants a name that feels simple and familiar to him (Lora, Lori, Julie), and your nickname ideas are more uncommon. Do you think you'll use the nn at all? If not, I think it's fine for your DH to choose his own nn for her, and you'll use the given name full time. I also think it's fine to have two different nicknames if they're similar enough (Jules/Julie), and she'll always be introduced with the full name.

I feel the frustration in your post b/c we constantly battled over DD#2's name, and I hope you can find something you both like.
