Please help my name my new baby girl!!

Hi everyone! I'm a long time PP member, and I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my third (and last) child!! I'm having such a hard time naming this one - not because I can't come up with a good name, but because my dh just doesn't like the one name I LOVE for our new little girl!!! I have completely fallen in love with the name Rayna Madison for her, but for some reason, my dh just doesn't like Rayna!!! I'm so bummed because I love it, and it just seems to fit her! It feels right, kwim?? But he just won't come around! So I've been really down about it, because every other name he suggests, I just don't like, and he thinks I'm just being difficult!!! Ugh!!

Anyway - I just came up with a name I hadn't seen before (we like unusual names that you don't see coming and going), and I wanted to see what you guys thought about it. What do you think of the name Rilyn for a girl??? I love the Y in a girls' name - my dd's name is Taryn, and I just love that. So I thought Rilyn (as opposed to Rylan which seemed a bit more masculine) looked pretty for a girl's name. (fyi - my son's name is Ethan - so I thought Ethan, Taryn and Rilyn sounded nice together) I was thinking of Rylie, but it seems so overused these days - I see them all over. (When we named my son Ethan back in 1998, it wasn't all that popular - now it's one of the hottest baby names around!! There aren't alot of 9 year olds with the name where I live in NY, but there are a TON of new babies with that name! LOL)

Anyway - what do you think of Rilyn? I was thinking maybe Rilyn Marisa, or Rilyn Malorie or Rilyn Mikayla (I'm Jewish, and I like to use the initials of relatives who have passed away to name children after. The R is for my Great Grandmother Ray, and the M is for my dh's Grandmother Mitzi)

Thanks for the input - I'm really going nuts with this!!!

-Barri (Mommy to 9 yr old Ethan Spencer, 5 yr old Taryn Samantha & Rilyn Marisa? due 12/16)

I much prefer the name on a boy, but I do think it would be cute in your sibset. Does your dh like this one?
Other R names:
Ruby
Roisin (ro-sheen) nn Rosie
Rowan
Raleigh
Raegan/Reagan
Reed/Reid (I have always though Reid would be adorable on a little girl)
Reese/Reece
Romilly nn Romy

Good Luck and HTH

Admittedly, it doesn't do a thing for me...I'm hearing a lot of board chatter about Rylan and Ryland these days, which indicates to me that it's about to take off (this year or next) and I have a major thing about "tweaking" spellings to feminize them. (It's just so counterintuitive to what we try to teach girls.)

Some other ideas for R names that I think would fit with Ethan and Taryn:
Regan
Romilly
Roma
Rilla

Well, seeing as my given name (not short for anything, and my mom did NOT want a boy!!!) is Barri, I don't agree about the changing of spellings of names to make them feminine being counterintuitive to what we try to teach girls!!! I have no issue with that at all - I actually love different and unusual names. I was really just asking for opinions on the actual name Rilyn - not whether or not you agree with changing spellings of names to make them for girls or visa versa. It's pretty common practice these days, and I actually kind of like it!! But I'm not truly sold on the name Rilyn either - if I were, I wouldn't have asked!! It's actually not growing on me at all unfortunately!! Now if you have any clues as to how to convince my dh that he needs to change his mind about Rayna, which I LOVE!! That would be mucho helpful!! LOL

Rilyn isn't bad, I don't LOVE it, I just prefer Rylan for a boy. But I don't have a problem with unisex names at all. What about Raven? I think Rylie is cute too.

I really like the name Rylan, or Rilyn, although I guess I prefer the sp Rylan even for a girl. I don't think it sounds masculine, I wouldn't choose that for a boy. Either way I think it's a nice choice and fits nicely with your other children's names.
Another choice might be Raven or Raegan, kind of has the same sound as Rayna (which I like also btw) Hopefully your dh will come around! :)
Good luck!

I really think Rylan is a cute name for a girl. I tend to like traditional names for boys but I'm really starting to prefer more unique or unisex names for girls. Maybe you could cut a deal with your husband and he could choose the middle name if you get to keep Rylan?

I hope it all works out.

I don't like Rilyn at all. It's very made-up looking and reminds me of ritalin.

Is Maya too trendy for your liking? You could switch the initals to be Maya Rose?

Not too trendy, but off limits since it's the name of my best friend's daughter!!! Damn!!Actually, I really don't like Rilyn either - it hasn't grown on me at all. I'm still hung up on Rayna - I just feel like that IS her name, and I just have to convince dh of it!!! I wish I knew how to do that!!!

I love Rilyn!! I have never thought of it for a girl but I really like it. I like the spelling also. It sounds very good with Marisa and I also like Mikayla for a middle name. I am a fan of different spellings. The y makes it much more feminine.
