Pregnant with no name...

My DH is really frustrating me. I am almost 7 months pregnant and we cannot agree on a name for anything. His favorites so far are Lydia and Miranda. I'm very eh about both of those. I haven't really found a name I'm 100% in love with but every time I suggest anything he shuts it down or says Maybe. I don't want a maybe I want a yes or a no. I really like Alora but it has its down sides too. I want something cute and playful but not too popular and I want a good nickname for it. Can anybody please help us???

Hello and congrats on expecting.

In general, men don't have the sense of urgency we do in naming babies. I think every last one of them would be content to pick out a name at the hospital. My dh wouldn't definitely commit until we got TO the hospital. It can be very frustrating because we have that motherly instinct to get all our ducks in a row!

In defense of your dh, I think Miranda is PERFECTLY suited to the criteria you listed. The nn Mia, Manda, Mandy, Randi, or Mira is an option.

Other names that you might both like given your criteria of-

"cute and playful but not too popular with a good nickname:"

(I also tried to keep many of them in the same "vein" as Lydia and Miranda)-

Francesca (Frannie, Francie, Fran, Chess, Cheska)
Vivian (Viv, Vivvy)- means "full of life, lively"
Cassidy (Cass, Cassie, Dee)
Susannah (Susy, Susu, Susa, Suse, Sann, Sannah, Ann, Anna, Annie)
Kimberlyn (Kimber, Kimi, Kiki)
Fiona (Fifi)
Bethany (Beth, Bet, Bethan)
Mariana (mary-anna or marr-ee-ahna)- (Mary, Ria, Ana, Annie, Mia)
Felicity has the great meaning of "joy, happiness"- (Lissie)
Gwendolyn (Gwen, Gwennie, Wendy, Lyn)
Natalia (Nat, Natty, Tia, Talia, Lia)
Jillian (Jill, Jilly, Lia)
Cecily (Cici, Cil)
Leanna (Lee, Lea, Ann, Anna, Annie)

Ginger,

Thank you so much for all of those suggestions. I'm pretty fond of a lot of them and I've written them all down to show DH when he gets home from work. I tend to not count out any name until I've showed it to him because I never know what he'll like.

I definatley understand what you mean when you say they don't have the urgency to name the baby like we do. I'm just so sick of calling her "the baby". You know?

Oy...men,

Brooke,

You made some really great suggestions also and I'll show most of them to DH. Some of them I had to count out because they're names of family members or too close to family members, etc. I'm so glad I found this board though. I've been through 3 baby naming books and numerous websites. I'm glad I have real people to talk to now.

As sifting through some of the names, I realized I forgot to mention that the middle name is going to be Quinne because that is the name of our first daughter who died 10 hours after birth. Some of the suggestions just didn't seem to flow quite right with it.

I went through the same thing with my first child. My ex had the oddest taste in baby names, and we just couldn't agree until around my 8th month, when my dad suggested a name. We both looked at each other, and said "that's it!!!". So, hang in there...there is a name that you'll both love and agree on. :) This time around, my fiance is a wonderful "namer"...thank goodness. :) Some suggestions for cute names...hmmmm...how about Isabella-nickname Bella
Tatiana-nickname Anna
Savhanna-nickname Hanna
I also like Alora. It's pretty and you could use Lora for the nickname. Good luck.
