I curious about the name Remy .. How exactly is it pronounced? I've been saying it like Jer REMY .. Is that right? Is it a unisex name or not .. One site I saw it on said it was and another said just boys .. We are having a little girl and were interested in it because my DF name is Jeremy .. but we are confused on the actually name and it'll determine if we really like it or not .. Thanks for any help

I've seen Remy as a unisex name; although, I do have a friend named Remy that is a boy. It is pronounced Rem-ee (rhyming with the word gem). I think it would be an adorable name for your daughter, especially given your DH Jeremy. Good luck.

Here's what I found on the Behind The Name website.

RÉMY
Gender: Masculine
Usage: French
Pronounced: ray-MEE
French form of the Roman cognomen Remigius, which was derived from Latin remigis "oarsman". Saint Rémy was a 5th-century bishop who was supposedly responsible for the baptism of Clovis, king of the Franks.

I have also heard it pronounced "REMMY" and used as a nickname for Remington.

I also read a book w/ the main character Remy. Her given name was Remember! Wish I could 'remember' the name of the book!

I have looked at the name Remy a couple times before but I always thought of it as boys name. I haven't actually heard of anyone having the name before. I do think it would be cute since your DF's name is Jeremy. What a neat way to name your new daughter after her daddy.

It's pronounced ray-MEE. Slightly different from the end of Jeremy (more feminine than "rem-ee" to my ear, though the name itself is masculine), but it is an interesting way to name her after her father without using his actual name.

Jem is also used as a nn for Jeremy/Jeremiah, so another neat idea would be to use Jemma/Gemma (I personally prefer the G spelling, but if you're honoring the name Jeremy/Jem, Jemma is the most obvious link). Just a thought. ;)

Ps. You may also like Romilly, nn Romy or Remy (or Milly/Millie, if you're not concerned about exact spelling and just want something similar).

I like Remy, but I agree with one of the pp's that Remi reminds me more of a girl's name. I think it is a great unisex name!
