Hi, my name is Valarie and my husband and I are having our first child. I am new to this message board thing, but wanted to get other peoples ideas. My husband's mn is Race, which has been used for the past 4 generations...granted it is not my favorite, but we have managed to come up with a name that goes with that. My question is is that my grandmother's name, who passed away years ago and who was the best grandmother, is Ramona. I would like to use it as a mn, but I don't want my child growing up to hate it. We like the name Gabriella as a first name and I think Ramona would actually work with it, but wasn't sure. Ramona isn't exactly my favorite either, but would like to use it in memory of her. I kind of thought that it would be OK since it seems like all the other older generation names (Ava, Rose, Sophia, Grace) are coming back, but wasn't sure about Ramona...help!

Thanks for the reply...Race would only be a middle name. I am hispanic and my husband is caucasion and for some reason my husband wants Spanish names, I don't care either way really. But for a boy we like, Lorenzo Race. Thanks for the feedback on Ramona...I do like that it is unique (right now). Of course, you have one celebrity name there child something and then it becomes the latest thing. Thanks again!

How many people's middle names do you know? It won't be visible 99% of the time.I think it's nice to have a middle name with some meaning, and by the time it's announced at her high school graduation, it'll probably be "in". I've heard of little baby Agathas being born, so Romona can't be far behind.
My kids and I are listening to Beverly Cleary's "Romona The Pest" books on tape now. They are very funny!
I like it -- especially considering the personal significance!
I immediately thought of the Beverly Cleary (sp?) books, which I loved as a child (and might be a neat assocation for her once she's old enough to read them). :)
I actually think this would make a really nice first name. Possibly with a cute nn, like Roma? (First one I thought of LOL) Plus, it's not trendy or overly-popular like a lot of names you hear, and to me that's a huge plus! She won't have to go by her name and last initial all through school, things like that.
So either way, first or middle, it gets my vote. :)
