Is Reagan Feminine or masculine?

We just found out we are going to have a baby boy in April. We were considering the name Reagan, but now wonder if it is too feminine. What do you think? Do you think of a boy or a girl when you hear the name Reagan?

Thanks for helping us make up our mind!

I see this as a girls name. I have known quite a few female Reagans, but no male.

Reagan currently is ranked around #200 in the most popular girls names of 2003 and #800 for boy's names. That means that there are WAY more little girl Reagans out there.

I tend to think of a girl when I hear the name "Reagan". ;-)

Definitely feminine.

I knew one Regan growing up (who spelled it this way, and I like this spelling best), and she was a girl. I also read a book where Regan was the female lead.

I think it's a masculine name that's used for a girl.

it seems to me that it's being used almost equally by boys and girls. pretty soon there won't be any names left for boys I guess.

I myself would probably shy away from any boy names that are being regularly used by girls now. Hunter even, can you imagine. I've heard all these on girls recently: Logan, Tyler, Ryan, Peyton, Hayden, Brennan, and probably several others that I'm just not remembering right now.

good luck.

One of the earliest usages of the name was in Shakespeares play King Lear. Regan is the name of one of the 3 daughters of King Lear..the play is based on an ancient legend (earliest written reference is Geoffrey of Monmouth ("History of the English Kings", around 1140),

Hi. I had a baby girl in Jan and named her Reagan. It sounds very feminine to me but it is considered a boys name also. I think it all depends on how you spell it also. Good Luck cause there are so many names out there which we are finding that we have to choose again for the 5th time.
