This is for real! What do you think?

As I mentioned in a PP, I just found out that I'm pregnant so this name list is no longer theoretical! I would really like your advice on these names. We won't know for awhile whether we're having a boy or girl so here are some of our favorites for both. Excuse the long list. I just felt like I needed to reevaluate my list of names now that it's "for real." :)

BOYS:
CHRISTIAN SCOTT (This has always been my favorite. DH's mn is Scott.)

ANTHONY SCOTT (My concern here is that he will be called Tony instead of Anthony and our LN is Thomas. I really dislike Tony Thomas, but I like Anthony Thomas).

DAWSON (I mainly like this because of its meaning, but it might make a better mn. Dawson Thomas doesn't have the best ring to it IMO, but WDYT?).

ZACHARY - Do you think this is too trendy?

WESLEY - My DH's grandfather's name.

ETHAN SCOTT - DH's favorite name. However, we have close friends who just named their son Ethan so I don't think we should use it.

NOAH - I have a good friend who has always wanted to use this name. Not that I couldn't use it, but I have my concerns. Plus, one of our top girl's names is Eden and I'm concerned about being too matchy if we end up wanting to use Eden at a later time.

GIRLS: (Most of these don't have any family signifiance. They are just the only ones DH and I could agree on!)

JULIA
LORELEI
EDEN
EVELYN
CELESTE
AVA
NORA
GWEN or GWYNETH
LILY or LILLIAN
PIPER
ELIZABETH
FINN
GILLIAN
SYDNEY

Congratulations!

For a boy I really like Wesley

For a girl I like Julia, Nora and Gwen.

Finally, it might not matter for you, but I really see Finn as a solid boy name. Let me suggest Finola, which I love, plus it has nn possibilities of Finn and Nola.

Good luck-
Annie

Congrats on your baby! Here are my choices and comments. All just my opinion of course, gotta go with what you love no matter what others think!

BOYS:
Dawson is my fave out of your boy lists. I like different names that not a lot of kids have.

GIRLS: (Most of these don't have any family signifiance. They are just the only ones DH and I could agree on!)

Lorelei, Piper and Gillian are my faves. To me Finn is a boy's name totally. I am naming my son Finley and calling him Finn, but it's up to you! Piper is the name I was going to name my daughter if I had a girl!

I love the name Christian so my vote (for boy) goes to Christian. 2nd choice would be Dawson.

As for girls I REALLY like the names Nora & Eden ... very pretty! Elizabeth is a great one too.

Great name choices!

I didn't read the other replies yet, so I'm completely unbiased here.

BOYS:
CHRISTIAN SCOTT - I like this a lot for you, and the special meaning behind the mn is great

ANTHONY SCOTT - I'm with you on "Tony Thomas," so this would definitely have to be a no nn name

Thanks for the input! :) You're always so thorough, and I really appreciate that. Just something I was considering for boys names. My EDD is around December 15th - maybe even a little closer to Christmas. Do you think Christian is kind of a nice connection to that without being too obvious? Of course, if I have a girl, I've got nothing. I don't think my top five (Evelyn, Lorelei, Nora, Eden or Julia) have anything to do with Christmas, do they?

Just a random thought....Thanks again!

Devanie was born on December 15 (also her due date, btw). ;)

Now back to you and YOUR baby (so excited for you). I think Christian is fine for a December baby. Now I wouldn't advocate trying to find a Christmas themed name (that generally doesn't turn out well ), but I completely agree with you that Christian is a fine nod to the season without being overly obvious or corny, like Mary Chrismas might (or even the very "original" idea of using Noelle as a mn every other parent of a December baby seems to have -- please avoid LOL). The fact that you had Christian high on your list before even knowing you were expecting makes it completely fine in my mind.

As to the girl names (besides Noelle ), pretty much any "Eve" name will seem Christmassy for a December baby, even though they're perfectly normal any other time of the year. I'm not saying Evelyn (or Eveline/Evangeline) will seem cheesy or anything. Just that there IS that whole "Christmas Eve" reference so you may find quite a few more Eves, Evas, Evelyns, etc. born around the holidays. Not that it will matter in the long run -- heck, Evie has evolved as Devanie's nn, and I never until now equated the nn with the holiday for her LOL -- just something to be aware of in case you see a few on a December expecting board or in birth announcements around the time of her birth.

HTH (and congrats again!)

~Kelli
