Red Raspberry Tea?

I was at Chick Fil-a yesterday talking to another mom and she told me that she and 3 other people she knows used Red Raspberry Tea to induce labor near the end. She said she took a box (16 count) and mixed it with 2 cups of water and drank it. She swears it worked. Has anyone ever tried this with or without success? Just wondering. I used castor oil with my first (it worked, but Uhhg) The tea doesn't sound as bad as what the castor oil did to me. Thanks!

I've never tried it but have also heard it works.

My understanding of raspberry red leaf tea (although I've never tried it myself) is that it makes the uterus contract, so it strengthens the muscles in preparation for labor. It's not necessarily supposed to send you into labor before your body is ready, but I think it's supposed to make your labor easier b/c the muscles have been working out in preparation for labor. I also think that you have to drink it on a regular basis during your entire pregnancy or at least toward the end in order for it to really have any effect.
Good luck!

I found a study on the use of red raspberry...Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it's of any real benefit...Too bad!
" the only real clinical study trial reported to date found no benefit. 2 This double-blind placebo-controlled study evaluated the effects of red raspberry in 192 pregnant women. Treatment (placebo or 2.4 g of raspberry leaf daily) began at the 32nd week of pregnancy and was continued until the onset of labor. The results failed to show any statistically meaningful differences between the group. Red raspberry did not significantly shorten labor, reduce pain, or prevent complications. Thus, at present, it appears that red raspberry does not work in the manner ascribed to it by tradition. "
The best thing that I've heard and tried and it worked for me was marathon sex over a 48 hour period. Semen contains prostaglandins which soften the cervix enough to bring on labor. Also massaging the nipples and drinking Ginger or Chamomile tea.
Good luck and remember to consult your doctor.
Best,
