I am looking at the name Caitlyn

The rank of this name in 2003 was 163 according to social security. But there are a ton of spellings, I would like to know what the rank of any name sounding like Caitlyn is

I have the rankings of all these names
Caitlyn 163
Caitlin 145
Kaitlyn 32
Kaitlynn 442
Kaitlin 264
Katelyn 59
Katelin 896
Katelynn 258

but I cant find any data about the total number of babies with each of these names so I could add them together.

Thanks
Meg

Using all those spellings (plus I added #507 Katlyn) you have a total number of 20794 babies. That puts it at #3 behind Emily and Emma and just barely in front of Madison. I think it is a hugely popular name around here and, with all the different spellings, bound to be mispelled more often than not.

on the SS site - the name prior to the ranking is the rank - the name after it is the # of names of that in the sampling. if you added all those #s together, then place that number where it would be in the ranking.

There are a ton of Caitlins (every spelling) out there. I think the name has peaked, however. I think of it as an American mutation of an Irish name because it would be pronounced differently in Irish: more like "koyt-hleen" according to one website. Personally, I feel that Kate (as a nn for Kathleen or Catherine) would be a much classier and classic choice. Just my opinion!
