What do you think about the name Riley/Rilee for a boy? Do you think it sounds girly? What is a good mn for this name that goes with the long last name of Reynolds-Hoffmann?

Thanks!

I like it OK for a boy, but it's really taken off as a girls' name - not sure whether that matters to you.

I would DEFINITELY not spell it Rilee, though - - for one thing, it looks like a typo, but for another, if I saw Rilee, I would think it was a girl's name and that her parents had used the "ee" ending spcifically to feminize a unisex name.

Quite the opposite. I think Riley is very masculine, and always find it odd when I hear it for a girl. Along the same lines as Ryan, Owen or Aidan for girls, though I know they're out there. Just not names I see as "unisex," KWIM?

Trendy misspellings are common for parents trying to make a name appear more feminine (though I'm not sure how spelling something incorrectly makes it inherently feminine ... that's actually kind of offensive LOL), but regardless, I'd avoid "Rilee" or anything similar for that reason. Riley is the most common Anglicization, so that would be fine (though this spelling is also used for girls, as you're aware).

If you really want to avoid the whole unisex appearance, however, you could use the more traditional Reilly spelling. I've NEVER seen a girl named Reilly. Generally they get more kre8iv spellings like Ryleigh, Rielee, Ryeleah, etc. There is a little boy named Reily (one L) in my dd's Kindergarten class, and he's never been mistaken for a girl on paper either, as far as I've seen.

I think that name is definitely being used more for girls now than boys. You wouldn't want to risk having a girl Riley in the same class as your boy.

Outdated... along the same lines as Mackenzie, Taylor, etc.

Forgot you asked about mns as well. ;)

Close friends have a son named Riley Wade, and while a W mn might not be best between the R-heavy Riley Reynolds-Hoffmann, a similarly simple mn would probably work well.

Riley Boyd Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Hoyt Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Heath Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Quinn Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Finn Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Hugh Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Neil Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Craig Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Sean Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Tate Reynolds-Hoffmann
Riley Graham Reynolds-Hoffmann

This name is becoming quite popular for girls (#53 in 2005 on the SSA website), however I think it's still fine for a boy. I agree w/ pp about Reilly being the most decidedly masculine spelling.

this name is so over-used - for both boys and girls - I mostly know girls with it, but a few boys

I just don't like it because it will always cause gender confusion and it's gotten way too popular

My sis in law just had a baby and joined a moms group for newborns in our area and there are 6 female newborns named ryleigh in her group, I think boy when I see the name, but my only concern is now that is a popular name for girls, what if your son ends up in a class with 6 ryleighs that are girls and hes the only boy with the name, as far as elementary school goes, i think he may get teased a bit with having a "girls" name.

I agree with what the previous posters said about this name, and also don't really like the alliteration of the first and last names. Riley Hoffman-Reynolds would sound better, or Reynolds-Hoffman with a first name that doesn't start with R.
