Rude input helped us decide....

We thought we had decided on a name for our ds, but when my in-laws heard we were naming him Magnus I heard every rude comment in the book!! My MIL said it sounded like MAGGOTS!! Not that I really care what they think, but I don't want my kid to have to hear rude comments like this all his life, so we went back to the drawing board. After much deliberation, we have finally decided on Alden Russell, which everyone seems to love...again, not that it really matters.

I'll admit I like Alden alot better than Magnus, but I would never be rude about the name you'd picked. I mean it's not their child, why does it matter so much to them? This past weekend I was at a family event and my SIL mentioned she liked the name Daxton if their baby is a boy. I'm not particularly fond of it, but definantly wasn't rude, but I was surprised by the rude comments I did hear. I guess that's why they say to keep it a secret until after the baby's born. WHen they look at the baby, they (if they have any tact at all), wouldn't say anything rude about the name then.

I really like Magnus and think that it is a great match with your DS's name. Alden is okay, go with whichever name you love.

I am proud of you for taking into consideration what your child will have to deal with regarding a name. Too many people are stubborn about it and think "I am the parent it is up to me! I don't care what other people say!" Well maybe they don't but thier child may. I always discuss the names I am thinking about with lots of people to get feedback. Not that I care that I am making a populare choice for my sake, but I can get a taste of the feedback my children may get. When others have said that family and friends should keep thier mouths shut if they don't like a name I disagree. They care because they love you and the baby. If the baby is not born yet, now is the time to give input! After a child is born the name is sacred and I don't think anyone should give negative input. I am happy about your decision. Congratulations on your baby! Julie

I am not fond of the name Magnus, but your family shouldn't have been rude. If you really like the name you should use it. It is your baby, so you should name him what you want. I LOVE the name Alden Russel! That is soooo Cute!
hope this helps
