Question:

If I use Elisabeth as a mn for a 1st hypothetical daughter, can I use it again as a fn for a 2nd hypothetical daughter? My DH's family always has boys, and he loves the name Elisabeth. He wants to use it for daughter #1, just in case there is not a daughter #2...but if there is a daughter #2, he would like it as a fn. Sorry if that is confusing. We won't be TTC until August though, and I think we are going to try for a girl specifically (since there are so many boys). For #2 (whenever that is) we will just try for either.

For example:

Rory Elisabeth & Elisabeth Lee

Thanks,
Tracy

I could see doing this if you only planned to have one baby, named _______ Elizabeth, then by chance or choice you had a second and just felt compelled to use Elizabeth as a FN. I think it could be kind of sweet for sisters to share a name like that, especially when it obviously means so much to you and your DH. Some siblings share the same mn, so I don't really see a problem with one having it as a FN and one as a MN. But truthfully,

You can do anything you like when it comes to naming, but I would find it dull, myself. There are scores of lovely and underused names out there, so I can't really get excited about using the same name twice. And I have to agree with the PP--the borrowed-from-the-boys Rory and classic Elisabeth sound like they're from two totally different families and feel off on sisters.

Thanks for the reply. Elisabeth does mean a lot to us, but Rory actually means even more to us. That is why we thought about doing it that way. I'm not too concerned about style. We wouldn't have more than two kids, and we may have only boys...who knows.

I see your dilemma! Since Rory is even more important than Elisabeth, I do like Rory Elisabeth or even a longer version like
