Same name as a second cousin?
| Tue, 10-18-2005 - 12:07am |
Hi, I have a question. Do you think it would be a bad idea to give my ds the same name as one of my second cousins?
You see, I love the name Devan, & my dh does too, but I forgot that it's the name of my second cousin (boy), who is 9 years younger than me.
Do any of you think this is going to be a problem?

Personally I do not think it is a problem.
All of my kids have a name that is one of my cousins.
As it turned out my aunts were pleased cause I liked a name they used and my cousins were thrilled too.
My oldest son is actually named after my father and ex's father but both names are in my family thru cousins.
Although it may look intentional that I used cousins names it actually was not. It was not until after the child was born I realized what I had done:)
Hope this helps
Tracy
I think it's only a problem if you are very close to him. Dh has a cousin named Ryan. I love that name, and we are still considering it because we aren't close to Ryan at all. But even though I LOVE the name Rebecca, we won't even consider it because dh has a cousin with that name that we ARE close to.

Eh, my family would probably not like it. My DH has a cousin Jonathan David. I love the mn David and I love the nn Jonny so I am secretly considering this name now. I doubt my DH will go for it though. I wouldn't be able to use David as the mn for sure.
Ask your family members their opinion :)
