See the resemblance?

I lost my grandmother when I was 6 and I've been trying really hard to find a girl name that would honor her. Her name was Mary Gene, which does not leave me a lot to work with. I'd thought of Merren/Maryn and other names tagged along with Mary, but it just didn't do it for me.

About a month ago, DH and I heard the name Mabry (May-Bree). We both liked it (which never happens), so I put it on the name list in the back of my head. The other night I was just laying in bed and I thought to myself, "Wait a minute! Mabry minus the b is Mary" It kinda gives me chills, but I'm taking it as a sign.

Does this work in honoring my grandmother and can you help me think of any combo's??

Thanks for any help!

I pronounce Mabry as MAY-bree (long "e") & never thought of Mayberry. I still don't hear it - even if I say it quickly - & if you (OP) don't hear it either & it doesn't bother you that a handful of people WILL hear Mayberry than stick w/ Mabry. Yea, it's a tad close to Mayberry but it's obviously NOT the same word.

Thank You! I feel the same way!!

Its pronounced May-Bree, I love it and think it goes great with my other kids names. I like how this name honors my grandmother and am not looking to use Gene at all. I'm just looking for a cute middle name that compliments Mabry even more. I've thought of Mabry Kendall. Kendall is on DH's list, but I don't know if it flows well together.

Thanks again.

You're welcome! I think that sometimes people on this board really pick apart names that are brought up. Sure, I absolutely hate some of the names that are questioned but some of the negatives are really nit-picky, if you know what I mean; some of the scenerios seem far-fetched. I guess it is important to hear all the negative, as well as positive, potential reactions, though, & that's why we're here.

Anyway, the name has hit a spark in you & you should definitely listen to your heart. It is a name that has meaning.

As for mns, have you looked at names from your family & ancestors that could work well w/ Mabry? Look at your own names, fns & mns, too. There's usually a great name hidden somewhere in our families that works well w/ a fn.

I think that Mabry is really sweet! I like the combo Mabry June or Mabry Adele.

good luck,

I know I love Mabry Kate too! I keep thinking that. Thanks a lot Hanna!!

I don't want to use any of the other family names because quite frankly they stink. I', just looking for something simple and cute.

Thanks again!
