Shane for a girl's name?

Hi Everyone,

DH and I are considering naming our little girl Mila Shane (pr MEE-LA). Middle name Shane is my husband's first name but we think it might be pretty and different for a girl. Any opinions on use of the name for a girl or the flow of Mila Shane? Runner up is Mila Rose.

Thanks so much!

I'd be tempted to use a more feminine form.

These are all feminine forms of Shane/Sean/John:
Sian (said Shan)
Sine (Sheena)
Sinead (shi-NAYD)
Siobhan (shi-VAWN)
Shona
Jane - Mila Jane is a sweet combo
Ivana - same ethnic origins as Mila, so this makes the most sense stylistically. ;)

Shanna, Shannon and Shanley also make sense, in that even though they have a separate root they're similar enough in sound to be an obvious nod to Shane.

If you simply want to use the exact name rather than a feminine form, I do think Shane is fine, however.

I think it sounds nice and I like that it has meaning. Since it's in the middle spot and its with a feminine first name I think that it works just fine, plus it does seem to have a nice flow :)

I like it :) I prefer some of the other names that I gave you before that are similar to Shane, but I like that Shane has meaning behind it, and Rose is so common.

Thumbs up from me!

I would strongly dislike it for a girl's first name, since it is very masculine; but I think it works fine as a girl's middle name. To me, middle names are a great way to incorporate family connections, such as a maiden name, beloved relative's name, etc. And that's the case here. So I think it's very nice, actually.

I like it as a mn to Mila. I wouldn't like it as a fn (nn would be fine). I like Mila Shane much more than Mila Rose.
Best wishes!

I just wanted to throw in my .02. I think Shane is just fine for a girl, I went to high school with a girl who spelled it Shayne, it was her first name and I never really thought about it as a boys name?!

Good Luck.

I like it. Go for it. Even if you spelt it Shayne. Good luck

well, I DO like "Mila Shane" for a DD,....but, I think that the Shane part needs a teeney bit of tinkering to be just a bit more dressed up for a lovely little girl, and to match up next to that "Mila" part ( which is very savvy of you, by the way...).

Shane needs to be spelled "Shayne", or "Shaine". I would go with the "Shaine".
Good luck with whatever you choose:-)
