Should we change our choice?

We have been planning on naming our 4th boy Max Ethan O'Riley. We have had this set in our minds for quite awhile. I have always sort of been worried about the Maxi pad conotation for the name Max. And I was a little worried about the middle initial sound adding to that....

Now I am due in 2 weeks at the most. Last night my husband was singing and I thought he said "Maxi thins" I asked him "What did you just say?" and he said "Max Ethan". So now I am horrified that we have chosen the name Maxi thin for our son!

Is this a legitimate concern or am I being silly?

Our other favorite choice (since speaking to Dh tonight) is Max Thomas.

Thank you for your oppinion! jules

I don't think you're being silly at ALL. I would go with a different name. Sorry!

well, *I* wouldn't do Max Ethan either...so I don't think you're being silly...

What about either Ethan Max and call him Max
or Max Thomas

Or, you could use Max as a nickname for Matthew, Matthias, Mark or something similar...

I thought that name was VERY cute before I read the rest of your story. Then I couldn't stop thinking "Maxi Thin" when I said Max Ethan. I do love the name Max though, maybe change the middle name? There is a little boy who goes to my church names Max and he is just adorable! Hope you figure it out! Let us know!

I have to agree with your worries on the name calling.

How about making the name a little longer:

Maximus
Maxwell
Maximo
Mason (nn Max)
Marc/ Mark
Maximillan (not my favorite)
Marco
Magnus (nn Max)

I think I like Maximus O'Reilly, Mason O'Reilly , Mark O'Reilly

HTH, Keep us posted -

I'd scrap Max Ethan, sorry.

Whay about using Ethan as a first name? I consider Max an informal name anyway. Should be Maxwell or something like that.

Thank you so much for your advice. I had this vision of my son being called up to high school graduation and everyone busting out laughing.... or getting the "can you believe anyone would name their son that?" It is too bad because I love the name too but it is not worth it. I don't want my son to be embarassed of his name any more than necessary. And we do use middle names alot just for fun at our house and I would have it cross my mind each time I think.

So I am back to the drawing board. The family all says keep it but I agree with you guys. And I am the Mommmy. : )

Thanks again! Jules

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

anyhow, I don't like Max stand-alone. it needs a formal name. Maxim, Maxton, Maxwell.

I also don't really see Ethan as a good matchup with any form of Max

but yes, Max Ethan, when you say it kinda fast, sounds like Maxi thin

good luck though

Unfortunately I am not kidding. Were you thinking that I came up with the problem and then posted it to be funny? I only wish! LOL.

I had never heard of Maxton. Kinda cute. But we are really casual and we would never use the full name I don't think. We use middle names alot just for fun but I can't imagine calling him Maxton. Sigh. Thanks again. Jules
