Sister for Celia

We need a name for Celia's sister. Last name starts with "A" and we don't like alliteration so no A names. We are considering the following Shakespearean names (Celia was a character in As You Like It:

Marina
Juliet
Viola

Is sticking with that theme too cutesy?

Others I like:

Eliza
Emilia
Elodie
Elinor
Gemma
Helena
India
Melina
Tessa

Any comments or suggestions?

I really like your list! Celia is a great name, too. I think another Shakespeare name would be cool, and it would not be too cutesy IMO. I don't think most people would take notice. I mean, it's not like you're naming them Romeo and Juliet or anything! Here are my opinions:

Marina- this is OK for me, but not my fave. I like Mariana a little more, though.
Juliet- very nice, I think it'd go well with Celia too.
Viola- sooo pretty! I think it works well on a child and an adult as well.

Other Shakespeare names for you to consider: Adriana, Beatrice, Bianca, Iris, Luciana, Rosaline.

Eliza- I love this! Same "type" or "style" as Celia without being matchy- I like it.
Emilia- OK, but seems too rhymey with Celia.
Elodie- NMS
Elinor- OK, but I like Eleanor spelling better for some reason.
Gemma- NMS, but I know a lot of people on this board like it a lot.
Helena- I love Helena!!! Would also go very well with Celia.
India- NMS
Melina- Nice!
Tessa- Great name- it's on my short list.

My favorites for Celia's little sis:
1. Eliza (top pick)
2. Bianca
3. Helena
4. Viola
5. Beatrice

Good luck!!!

Definitely not what I would describe as a "cutesy" theme -- that would be Celia and Delia or Celia and Celeste, KWIM? ;) I actually think the Shakespearean link is quite classic.

Of your list, I love ...

Marina -- Celia and Marina = sky/heaven and sea (neat )
Juliet
Viola
Emilia -- Shakespeare uses Emilia as a character name a number of times! Wasn't sure if you were aware. ;) Still, I'd try to avoid another -ia (especially -lia) ending with Celia. Celia and Amelie would be lovely, however, if you don't mind using a variation.
Eliza -- Queen Elizabeth is as well ;)
Elodie -- absolutely love Celia and Elodie
Elinor -- I believe Eleanor (this spelling) is Shakespearean as well
Gemma -- very sweet
Helena -- Shakespeare again (I'm sorry, that may have been what you meant, but I wasn't sure since they were separated and thought it worth pointing out)
Tessa -- generally prefer as a nn, however

You may also like:

Flora
Freya (what better sister name to Celia/"heaven" than a goddess? )
Eloise/Louisa
Matilda
Talulla/Tallulah
Daphne
Ruby
Imogen
Niamh
Madeleine
Alice -- ok, so I realized after typing this that it's an anagram of Celia. Still, if you wouldn't feel obligated to try it again for a third child, if there will be one, Celia and Alice work wonderfully as sister names. :)

I think Marina works beautifully! Helena would be my second choice.

After I read the title to your post the 1st thing that popped in my head was Marie. Then I looked at your list & saw your 1st name listed was Marina! So I vote for Marina (although I actually do prefer a sib name that DOESN'T end in the "uh" sound as Celia does)!

Congrats on #2!

Celia is a gorgeous name; excellent work. I don't think that sticking w/the Shakespearian theme is too cutsey, but you also shouldn't limit yourself to that.

Here are my thoughts on your list:

Marina-This is fabulous.

Juliet-Also, very very nice.

Viola-I don't love this name. It's not awful though. It just seems odd to have a name be so close to the insturment, you know?

Eliza-I like this a lot.

Emilia-Beautiful, but it might rhyme w/Celia a bit.

Elodie-Perfect!

Elinor-That's alright. It doesn't seem nearly as sweet as Celia; perahps a bit more harsh. Also, Ellie is really really popular these days.

Gemma-Lovely.

Helena-This one is nms. The 'Hel' part is a bit of a turn off.

India-That's nms, but it's interesting.

Melina-Ooh, very nice.

Tessa-I do like this, but it seems to be a different style then Celia.

There are so many great choices here. If I had to pick my top three favorites for you in order they'd be: Elodie (okay, it's still an 'Ellie' name, but I love it!), Juliet, & Gemma. Marina & Melina are close runner up.

Here are some more suggestions:

Bellamy

Beatrice

Beatrix

Bronte

Briar

Daphne

Emmeline

Estella

Fiona

Flora

Ione

Ivy

Karina

Lydia

Lorelei

Matilda

Marigold

Ottelie

Philippa

Romilly

Rosalie

Rosaline-Shakespearian too! I love this.

Violet

Hope this helps!

I like Marina with Celia. What about Bianca? I prefer Juliana to Juliet, personally. I think Helena, Gemma and Tessa all go well with Celia.

After reading the other posts I would say my favs are by far:

Luciana and Iris

Both go with Celia and both are really beautiful and not too common names.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on!
